ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Performs engineering analysis, calculations, design, studies, and other duties associated with constructing, maintaining, and operating high and medium voltage power lines and facilities. Utilizes software and equipment in power line routing, staking, and design. Performs or arranges for and oversees testing processes necessary for line designs. Creates specifications; prepares bid documents; evaluates bids received; prepares and presents reports and recommendations as required for purchase of materials, equipment, services, and miscellaneous items associated with high and medium voltage power lines and other assigned projects. Coordinates plans with Purchasing and Warehouse departments to schedule procurement activities such that necessary materials and equipment are available when needed for transmission line projects. Coordinates or verifies work of outside contractors and/or engineering firms concerning transmission line design activities; monitors work orders, project progress, change orders, and contractor payments of assigned areas. Coordinates and oversees the progress of assigned projects; assures that plans, reports, material purchases, and required contracts are completed in proper sequence for project completion on schedule. May represent GRDA in regional organizations concerning transmission lines and/or transmission related topics. Creates, organizes, and maintains records for assigned oversight areas of department. Takes a leadership role in the update of departmental design and construction standards and other departmental records. Coordinates with utility relocation consultants to determine if proposed construction projects have a negative impact to GRDA’s transmission lines. Coordinates with landowners on proposed Right of Way modifications. Interfaces with landowners, Customers and peer utilities to facilitate project execution. Creates and maintains transmission as-builts of existing transmission line plan & profiles. Ensures professional development of assigned staff; organizes work group for effective performance. After-hours work may be required under system emergency or storm conditions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical or civil engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a high voltage transmission engineer with an electric utility.
  • Must have a valid Oklahoma driver's license.
  • Professional Engineer status.
  • PE registration in any state is required.
  • Licensure must be transferred to Oklahoma within 12 months of employment.
  • Functional competency with personal computers; prefer experience with Excel, Access, and Word.
  • Must be capable of methodical analysis of complex technical problems.
  • Familiarity with distribution automation and DACR/FLISR systems and techniques
  • Has a grasp of concepts such as: structural design, foundation design, grading design, geotechnical engineering analysis, electrical circuit analysis, fault calculations, system protection concepts/schemes, statics, thermodynamics & electromagnetic fields.
  • Familiarity with lockout tag-out procedures.
  • Must possess and demonstrate excellent writing and composition skills.
  • Must be comfortable giving verbal presentations before groups of any size.
  • Must be able to walk, climb stairs, work from ladders and elevated platforms.
  • Must not have a fear of heights, confined spaces, or working around high voltage equipment.
  • Ability to lift, move, and carry weights of up to 50 lb. on an irregular basis.
  • Must possess mental, visual, and auditory acuity for attention to visual and auditory detail.
  • Manual dexterity is required for operation of test equipment, small tools, and the installation, adjustment, and repair of control devices.

Nice To Haves

  • Additional courses or practical experience in electrical power transmission line design, systems analysis, computer programming, and project and facility management are desirable.
  • Working knowledge of PLS-CADD.
