This is a hybrid position based at a Lightsource bp office; Denver, Austin, or San Francisco. Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays are in office, Mondays and Fridays remote. What You’ll do Manage merchant revenue streams such as capacity and RECs for operational LSbp US projects and associated risk mitigation market strategies. Negotiate bilateral commodities contracts. Be a subject matter expert on revenue risks and mitigations, as well as RTO markets and policies and regulations impacting solar and storage development. Collaborate with Asset Services and the Investment Management team to optimize the portfolio of operational assets.

Requirements

  • Strong understanding of major power markets and short-term risk optimization with focus on renewable energy.
  • Understanding of utility-scale solar and storage development processes and financing structures
  • Effective communication and presentation skills, both oral and written
  • Experience working across teams and functions to deliver results
  • Ability to efficiently and effectively articulate complex and ambiguous information in a concise and accurate manner
  • Strong results and detail orientation
  • Comfort working in fast-paced environments
  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree is a plus
  • 5-8 years’ experience in power markets, preferably in the storage, solar or clean energy industry
  • Strong understanding of energy markets structures and value streams, including energy, Renewable Energy Certificate (RECs), capacity and ancillary services
  • Experience negotiating transactions with counterparties across the industry
  • Understanding of renewable project fundamentals including project development, business development, financing

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with analytical frameworks, relational databases, and PowerBI visualization is a plus
  • Board-level communication experience is a plus
  • Solid understanding of energy markets and commodities products
  • Strong commercial acumen and business development skills
  • Strong interest in current and future market trends in energy industry, particularly for utility-scale solar and storage technologies
  • Self-starter and highly motivated to be a strong team contributor
  • Ability to handle complex and highly ambiguous scopes of work
  • Ability to effectively and efficiently prioritize work with minimal supervision
  • Flexible approach to addressing opportunities and challenges in a fast-paced business environment, while maintaining a professional demeanor

Responsibilities

  • Structure commercial transactions for merchant energy, capacity, RECs and/ or other commodities, across various regions and tenors, with a focus on short term optimization
  • Work with a wide range of wholesale market counterparts such as utilities and trading firms to negotiate deals
  • Support the revenue management and optimization of the current portfolio of assets, including management of Day Ahead-Real Time spread, and basis/congestion
  • Develop, implement and monitor FTR strategy based on fundamentals analysis
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills, both orally and written, when sharing work product with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support ISO/RTO asset registration, credit requirements, participation requirements
  • Support RFP responses and PPA negotiations in collaboration with origination team
