This position requires interaction with Operations to monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize operating units to drive continuous process and product performance improvements for the Hyperzone (HDPE), AB3 (LDPE) and Q1 (LLDPE) plants. Polymers Technical manager will provide support for implementation of strategic projects to improve unit reliability and quality performance. Position also requires collaboration with Global Polymers Process Engineering and R&D teams to support implementation of Hyperzone Improvement, Value Enhancement Program and long-range Capital projects. This position reports to Site Technical Manager of the La Porte Complex.

Requirements

  • B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering
  • A minimum of 10 years of engineering experience in the chemical process industries
  • Previous leadership experience is required
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Operations to identify new opportunities to remove constraints to maximize on-stream time and profitability while minimizing business impact and ensuring safe and reliable operation
  • Analyze complex operating challenges and collaborate to provide recommendations to improve performance
  • Provide leadership during troubleshooting, outages/turnarounds, startups and shutdowns
  • Support evaluation of existing Product wheel for each unit to recommend adding potential new grades
  • Contribute in cross-functional Team environment and establish strong business relationships with onsite and global resources to deliver results
  • Set clear performance expectations and coach and mentor Technical personnel
  • Utilize benchmarking data to propose gap closure initiatives to maintain competitive advantage
  • Support capital, expense and special project scope development, execution, start-up support and training
  • Collaboration with Global Polymers Process Engineering and R&D
  • Support Management of change process (MOC/PSSR)
  • Develop and maintain a Long-Range Capital plan for the Polymers operating units
  • Lead Polymers Value Enhancement Program
  • Collaborate with the business team to create, plan, organize and execute short- and long-term range objectives to ensure continued site and business alignment
  • Benchmark and develop a gap closure plan to drive units to “Best Achievable” performance
