About the position

The Manager, Policy Communications at the Peter G. Peterson Foundation will oversee communications activities that support the Foundation's mission to address America's long-term fiscal challenges. This role involves strategic initiative execution, writing, and collaboration across various departments and external partners to enhance the Foundation's impact and reach.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Foundation staff and grantees on core communications projects and programs, focusing on the current policy and political environment.
  • Analyze, synthesize, and summarize information about fiscal and policy issues.
  • Support the Chief Writer and Senior Director in executing writing assignments, including website content, social media content, messaging, and briefing documents.
  • Function as editor/message approver for materials written by other staff members.
  • Develop talking points for Foundation leaders for meetings and presentations.
  • Stay current on the legislative, policy, and political landscape related to fiscal and economic issues.
  • Ensure policy-heavy grants align with overall messaging by collaborating with grantees and research teams.
  • Support public opinion research initiatives, particularly the Fiscal Confidence Index.
  • Provide writing support for executive correspondence and respond to high-level inquiries.

Requirements

  • At least six years of professional work experience in Communications/public affairs or political/policy-driven work, preferably in the national political arena.
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Strong experience writing various types of content and materials.
  • Skilled in working independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrates initiative, professionalism, and attention to detail.
  • Interest in and knowledge of fiscal and economic policy and the legislative process.
  • Ability to simplify complex policy issues into understandable messages.
  • Strong research and analytical skills.
  • Ability to synthesize complex information in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Clear, concise, and accurate writing, editing, and proofing skills.
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple projects.
  • Ability to coordinate and collaborate with multiple parties on complex projects.
  • Openness to feedback and a desire to learn and grow.
  • Experience with various communications styles, formats, and distribution channels.
