About The Position

As the Portfolio Manager in the Program Management Office, ensure that a set of approved programs and projects are initiated, tracked, and executed efficiently, resulting in a high percentage of on time, on-budget implementations that meet key customer objectives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree is required.
  • Minimum of (8-10) eight to ten years of senior-level project management experience, with demonstrated responsibility for complex program and/or portfolio management of large-scale programs/sets of programs.
  • Two (2) or more years of management responsibilities.
  • Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations.
  • Strong organizational and analytic skills and strong attention to detail.
  • Self-starter/leader who can anticipate department needs in a proactive (versus, reactive) manner.
  • Ability to develop and interpret data and manage resources.
  • Ability to motivate and influence others.
  • Ability to effectively lead a team.
  • Ability to multi-task and juggle management of several high-priority projects in parallel.
  • High degree of integrity in handling confidential information.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, including the ability to lead a high-performing team.
  • Ability to influence large, cross-functional teams without direct reporting responsibility, preferred.
  • Ability to work with different levels of management throughout an organization, and translate customer needs into technology and process solutions, preferred.
  • Superior ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization, including top executives, managers, faculty, administrators, and team members. Expert at both oral and written communication of all types, including memos, reports, charts, formal presentations, etc. Good at issue resolution and problem-solving, preferred.
  • Must possess extensive knowledge and expertise in the use of project management methodologies and tools, resource management practices and change management techniques, preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge and experience using common project management methods/ techniques required. Systems implementation project experience including requirements gathering, system vendor selection, functional and technical solution design, business process design and workflow, testing and user acceptance, deployment, and organizational change management and communications, preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and management experience, preferred.
  • Ability to multi-task and juggle management of several projects in parallel, preferred.
  • Stakeholder/sponsor management, preferred.
  • Attention to detail is essential, preferred.
  • Experience successfully managing several large, complex, and transformative projects from conception through implementation, preferred.
  • Understands organizational change management strategies, preferred.
  • Candidate needs to have strong interpersonal and leadership skills, preferred.
  • A team player that has the ability to motivate the team and drive to project success, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Directly manage, coach, and develop the Project Managers in the Program Management Office.
  • Support the development and maintenance of an integrated calendar of initiatives impacting teams and the development and execution of a comprehensive communications plan related to those initiatives to ensure all appropriate team members and stakeholders across the district are informed of project issues and status.
  • Key measures of performance include: project delivery meeting scope, schedule and budget objectives, customer satisfaction with project implementation, effective progress reporting and program communications.
  • To accomplish these objectives, the Portfolio Manager will need to develop and maintain strong working relationships with the leadership across all Offices in Denver Public Schools.
  • Successful project delivery will include implementation of processes along with the required change management allowing the organization to quickly adopt the change, and reap the projected benefits of the new tools.
  • Establish systems and processes to progress monitor the district's Strategic Roadmap and other progress measures critical to long term impact and sustainability in the Denver Public Schools.
