About The Position

The Manager, Physical Therapy provides operational leadership and clinical oversight for the Physical Therapy Department. This role ensures the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based, patient-centered rehabilitation services in alignment with organizational goals, regulatory requirements, and departmental standards. Under the direction of the Director/Chief of Physical Therapy, the Manager oversees daily operations, staff performance, patient care coordination, productivity, quality improvement initiatives, and regulatory compliance. The Manager supports and mentors staff while maintaining clinical competency and may provide direct patient care as needed. The Manager collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to promote coordinated, efficient, and outcome-driven care for adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations across multiple service lines and medical diagnoses.

Requirements

  • Req Bachelor’s Degree Bachelor's Degree in Physical Therapy
  • Req Graduate of an accredited Physical Therapy or Occupational Therapy educational program
  • Req 2–5 years Clinical experience in physical therapy.
  • Req Current knowledge of treatment practices.
  • Req Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Req Must demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills, and mature and sound judgment.
  • Req Strong leadership and staff development skills.
  • Req Ability to manage staffing, scheduling, and productivity standards.
  • Req Strong organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Req Ability to manage conflict and promote teamwork.
  • Req Knowledge of regulatory and accreditation standards.
  • Req Physical Therapist - PT (CA DCA) OR licensed applicant status for 1 examination period for California licensure, and must have California licensure within 90 days post hire.
  • Req Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider from American Heart Association
  • Req Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) If no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire and maintained by renewal before expiration date. (Required within LA City only)

Responsibilities

  • Oversees daily operations of the Physical Therapy Department to ensure efficient workflow and optimal patient outcomes.
  • Ensures timely completion of patient evaluations, treatment plans, reassessments, and discharge documentation per policy.
  • Monitors and enforces documentation accuracy, regulatory compliance, and quality standards.
  • Maintains departmental productivity standards and monitors therapist caseload management.
  • Assists with direct patient care as needed to support operational demands.
  • Supervises, mentors, and evaluates physical therapists and support staff.
  • Conducts performance evaluations and competency assessments.
  • Oversees orientation and training of new staff, registry personnel, and students.
  • Ensures appropriate staffing levels and manages scheduling adjustments.
  • Promotes staff engagement, professional development, and continuing education participation
  • Participates in and leads departmental performance improvement initiatives.
  • Monitors quality metrics, patient satisfaction, and outcome measures.
  • Identifies areas for operational improvement and implements corrective action plans.
  • Ensures compliance with accreditation and regulatory agency standards.
  • Serves as liaison between therapists and physicians to facilitate communication.
  • Supports discharge planning and interdisciplinary coordination of care.
  • Serves as clinical instructor and supports student education programs.
  • Provides internal education sessions to therapy staff and other departments.
  • Encourages professional association involvement (e.g., APTA).
  • Assists in departmental budget monitoring and resource utilization.
  • Oversees equipment maintenance and supply management.
  • Participates in policy development and implementation.
  • Leads or participates in special projects as assigned by the Director.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
