About The Position

The Manager, People Development & Engagement is responsible for designing and leading enterprise-wide talent strategies that enable business growth, performance excellence, and a high-engagement culture. This role owns learning & development, performance management, full-cycle recruiting strategy, internal communications, and engagement initiatives. This leader will build scalable talent systems that support rapid growth, strengthen leadership capability, and reinforce a culture of accountability, ownership, and operational excellence.

Requirements

  • 6–10+ years of progressive experience in talent management, L&D, and recruiting
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development. Business, Operations, Hospitality, or related field preferred (or equivalent experience)
  • Demonstrated success building scalable talent systems from the ground up
  • Strong project management and change management capability
  • Ability to influence leaders at all levels
  • Analytical mindset with ability to leverage data to drive decisions
  • Experience implementing performance management frameworks
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated track record of developing leaders and building bench strength
  • Strategic thinker with hands-on execution ability
  • High ownership and accountability
  • Strong business acumen
  • Collaborative and relationship-driven
  • Understanding of learning development and design (written and video)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office required
  • Passion for pets and alignment with JustFoodForDogs' mission and values
  • Ability to travel 25% or less based on the needs of the business

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in multi-unit, retail, or PE-backed environments preferred
  • Proficiency in development software/learning systems preferred

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement enterprise learning strategy across retail operations, and corporate teams
  • Build leadership development programs for frontline managers through senior leaders
  • Create onboarding and role-based training frameworks
  • Manage people (succession) planning and high-potential development processes
  • Manage performance philosophy, goal-setting, and review processes
  • Coach leaders on feedback, accountability, and performance improvement
  • Develop tools and training to support consistent performance standards across locations
  • Monitor talent metrics (retention, performance trends, internal mobility)
  • Oversee recruiting strategy for all corporate and field leader positions
  • Partner with hiring managers to define role scorecards and hiring profiles
  • Improve quality-of-hire and time-to-fill metrics
  • Develop employer brand strategy aligned with company values and growth goals
  • Implement structured interviewing and selection processes
  • Lead employee engagement strategy, surveys, and action planning
  • Develop and implement internal communication strategy that supports transparency and alignment
  • Reinforce company values (Tenets of the Pack) and culture initiatives across all locations
  • Support change management efforts tied to growth and transformation initiatives
  • Drive recognition programs and cultural reinforcement mechanisms
