About The Position

TransUnion is a major credit reference agency, and we offer specialist services in fraud, identity and risk management, automated decisioning and demographics. We support organisations across a variety of sectors including finance, retail, telecommunications, utilities, gaming, government and insurance. This GFSS Payroll Tax and Compliance Manager will oversee all aspects of payroll tax reporting, regulatory compliance, and audits across our Americas operations. This individual will play a critical role in ensuring that payroll processes remain compliant with international, federal, state, and local tax regulations, while driving process standardization and risk mitigation across regions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of payroll tax experience, with at least 2 years in a global or multinational environment.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations.
  • Familiarity with payroll systems such as ADP and Workday.
  • Experience managing year-end payroll tax processes and filings.
  • Proven track record in managing audits and mitigating tax compliance risk.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure accurate calculation, withholding, reporting, and remittance of payroll taxes across multiple countries and jurisdictions.
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory changes affecting payroll tax compliance globally and ensure timely implementation of updates.
  • Oversee the preparation and filing of tax returns and year-end forms (e.g., W-2, 1099, T4, etc.) in accordance with local laws.
  • Manage relationships with third-party vendors, tax agencies, and internal stakeholders to resolve discrepancies and ensure timely tax filings.
  • Lead payroll compliance efforts across all regions, including adherence to internal controls, SOX requirements, data privacy, and labor laws.
  • Conduct periodic audits of payroll tax data and processes to identify discrepancies or risks.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert (SME) on payroll tax regulations, providing guidance to payroll, finance, HR, and legal teams.
  • Maintain and continuously improve the global payroll control framework.
  • Drive implementation of global payroll tax process improvements and automation initiatives.
  • Support system upgrades, new country setups, and integrations from a tax and compliance perspective.
  • Partner with internal teams (e.g., HRIS, Legal, Finance) to ensure upstream and downstream data accuracy and alignment.
  • Lead or support cross-functional and payroll tax initiatives.
  • Collaborate with regional payroll leads to ensure consistent tax practices.
  • Train and support payroll team members on evolving compliance standards and tax procedures.
