About The Position

The Manager, Patient Access position is located in Arlington Heights, IL, and is a full-time role with working hours from Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 5 pm. The role involves overseeing patient registration services, scheduling support, and reimbursement-related functions at the customer point of access. The manager will monitor and oversee the performance of patient access specialists, ensuring compliance with hospital and regulatory standards. The position serves as a liaison for patients with point of service departments, physicians, and insurance carriers to resolve escalated registration issues.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare, Business, or a related field required.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience with medical insurance, registration processes, revenue cycle reimbursement, EMTALA, HIPAA, and other healthcare regulations in a managed care environment required.
  • At least 3 years NCH PAS/PES experience with 1 year as a Lead required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of management experience required for external hires.
  • Prior experience with registration service-related and quality measurement techniques required.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the effective daily operations of the designated patient access and call center areas and related services.
  • Oversee the performance of Patient Access Specialists and adjust staff scheduling requirements.
  • Evaluate ongoing workflow of patient registration services, including compiling complete insurance information and scheduling patient services.
  • Monitor customer wait times and staff productivity to ensure quality service delivery.
  • Ensure compliance with departmental policies, procedures, and Medicare guidelines.
  • Direct registration staff in activities to facilitate customer registration/scheduling.
  • Intercede in escalated patient issues and serve as a resource for patient access staff.
  • Promote positive relations with patients, visitors, physicians, and staff.
  • Plan and conduct new hire orientation and ongoing training programs for all staff.
  • Collaborate with education consultants to address staff learning needs.
  • Implement contract requirement changes and train staff to ensure compliance.
  • Develop and prepare regular and special reports relating to the registration process.
  • Review registration orders and patient account codes to identify discrepancies.
  • Develop service standards, operational controls, and performance improvement monitoring tools.
  • Formulate department policies and provide staff with interpretation and guidance.
  • Interview, hire, discipline, and discharge subordinate personnel as necessary.
  • Evaluate staff performance and maintain accurate personnel and payroll records.
  • Organize monthly staff meetings to discuss problems and training needs.
  • Assist in the development of short and long-term goals with the Director of Patient Access.
  • Participate in the development of annual business plans and budgets.
  • Manage the registration area budget responsibly.
  • Participate in corporate compliance initiatives and monitor compliance.
