Position Summary The Manager, Parcel Transportation is responsible for the strategic and operational management of the company’s domestic parcel transportation network, overseeing approximately $32M in annual spend. This role owns carrier strategy, rate and contract management, service performance, and cost optimization to improve parcel order profitability and customer delivery outcomes. This leader drives daily execution while leading continuous improvement initiatives that support growth, service excellence, and cost control. The role partners closely with Distribution Centers (DCs), branch operations, Sales, Customer Service, Finance, Procurement, IT, and external parcel carriers to deliver reliable, scalable, and cost-effective parcel solutions. The position also leads parcel analytics and carrier performance management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 7+ years of transportation/logistics experience with a strong focus on parcel transportation.
  • Experience managing large parcel spend ($20M+ preferred).
  • Proven carrier negotiation and contract management experience.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate data into action.
  • Experience leading and developing teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a high-volume, multi-DC/branch/store environment.
  • Familiarity with TMS, parcel manifesting systems, and BI/reporting tools.
  • Experience supporting e-commerce or omnichannel fulfillment.

Responsibilities

  • Own end-to-end domestic parcel transportation strategy across all shipping points.
  • Manage the $32M annual parcel budget, ensuring alignment with financial targets and growth plans.
  • Develop and execute cost-reduction initiatives, including: Rate optimization Accessorial and surcharge management DIM optimization Zone-skipping opportunities Ongoing evaluation of DC and branch shipping point strategies
  • Evaluate and optimize final-mile delivery options, including alternative modes to parcel when appropriate to improve cost and service.
  • Partner with Sales and Finance to analyze net freight and improve freight recovery by: Comparing customer-paid shipping charges to actual parcel expense Building customer-centric pricing and revenue collection strategies
  • Partner with Finance on budgeting, forecasting, accruals, and variance analysis.
  • Lead relationships with national, regional, and specialty parcel carriers.
  • Manage carrier contracts, rate cards, service agreements, and performance scorecards.
  • Support RFPs, carrier negotiations, and onboarding in partnership with Procurement and the Director of Transportation.
  • Monitor carrier capacity, service levels, claims, and invoice accuracy; drive resolution and accountability.
  • Oversee daily parcel execution across DCs and branches, ensuring compliance with routing guides and SOPs.
  • Ensure operations support customer delivery commitments, peak volume demands, and promotional events.
  • Partner with DC/branch leadership to address service disruptions, volume spikes, and operational constraints.
  • Drive process standardization and adoption of best practices across the network.
  • Leverage TMS, parcel manifesting systems, and analytics tools to monitor performance and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Lead initiatives related to automation, system enhancements, and improved shipment data visibility.
  • Analyze shipment characteristics (weight, dimensions, zones, service levels) to improve cost and service outcomes.
  • Support enterprise initiatives related to centralized transportation planning and execution.
