About The Position

You will lead Packaging Operations at our Zebulon site, overseeing a skilled team that prepares clinical trial and comparator packaging in compliance with Good Manufacturing Practice. You will work across quality, engineering, planning and supply to deliver reliable, on-time packaging while improving processes. These responsibilities include some of the following: Lead and develop a team responsible for primary and secondary packaging, labeling, data entry, and inspection in ambient and cold chain conditions. Ensure packaging activities meet quality, regulatory and safety standards. Support audits and inspections. Manage staffing, training programs, and performance development to build capability and engagement. Foster a collaborative, safe, and inclusive work environment that promotes engagement, accountability, and continuous development, ensuring strong team culture, effective coverage, and business continuity. Drive continuous improvement projects to increase throughput, reduce waste, and improve process reliability. Coordinate production schedules, capacity planning, and resource allocation to meet supply commitments. Own investigations, risks, root cause analysis and corrective actions for packaging deviations and quality events. Translate enterprise and site-level strategies into clear, executable priorities for the Packaging Operations team, aligning day-to-day execution with corporate objectives, leadership direction, and cross-functional goals. Operate effectively within agile, digitally enabled ways of working, collaborating across global teams, including the Harlow (UK) site and other R&D sites, to ensure alignment, knowledge sharing, and consistent execution.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, life sciences, chemistry, biology, pharmaceutical sciences, manufacturing, operations, or a related scientific field
  • 8+ years of experience in manufacturing or packaging operations in a regulated industry.
  • 3+ years of people management experience, including hiring and performance management.
  • Experience conducting investigations, root cause analysis and implementing CAPA.
  • Experience managing production schedules, resource planning and basic department budgeting.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with clinical trial and/or commercial packaging operations.
  • Experience with electronic batch records, packaging label systems, or related packaging IT systems.
  • Training or experience in continuous improvement methods (Lean, Six Sigma or similar).
  • Experience in cold chain and ambient packaging processes.
  • Prior involvement in regulatory inspections and audit support.
  • Experience leading cross-functional projects and change initiatives.
  • Practical knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and regulatory expectations.

Responsibilities

  • Hire, coach and develop packaging operators and frontline supervisors to achieve performance goals.
  • Maintain a safe working environment and partner with environment, health and safety teams on initiatives.
  • Manage the packaging training program, including training plans, learning modules and competency tracking.
  • Lead mid-range projects and cross-functional teams to deliver operational improvements.
  • Serve as business lead investigator for complex deviations and write clear, timely investigation reports.
  • Participate on the site leadership team and represent Packaging Operations in site-level planning.
