About The Position

Now Hiring: Manager, Out-of-School Time (OST) Do you believe that the hours outside the classroom are just as important as the ones inside? Are you passionate about creating safe, engaging, and meaningful experiences for kids? At the YMCA, we’re looking for a Manager of Out-of-School Time to lead dynamic, licensed childcare programs that support youth, families, and communities every day. This isn’t just program management—this is youth development and safety leadership. You’ll play a critical role in ensuring children are cared for in environments that are structured, inclusive, and engaging. Under the direction of the Senior Manager, OST, the Manager will be responsible for the oversight of operations, program development, staff supervision, and will create a welcoming environment for all. In addition, the incumbent will work closely with all departments to ensure all certifications and communication is set and clear with staff who work for multiple departments. The incumbent must demonstrate customer service, be forward-thinking and innovative, and will exhibit the core values stated below. Requirements

  • Experience leading teams in childcare, youth programs, or education
  • Strong understanding of licensed childcare requirements and safety standards
  • A passion for working with children and supporting staff
  • Ability to juggle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • A commitment to inclusion, equity, and community impact
  • Site Director Qualified, must have 5,460 hours of paid verifiable experience working with youth under the age of 13.
  • Knowledge of child development, developmentally appropriate practice, and curriculum planning for Youth ages 5-18, and an interest in and concern for children and their proper care and wellbeing.
  • 2+ years of customer service experience, preferably in a YMCA or other nonprofit agency.
  • Experience communicating with multiple departments/initiatives and ensuring achievement of collective goals.
  • Strong interpersonal relationship skills that ensure business growth and sustainability.
  • Ability to be highly collaborative with internal leaders and external partners to achieve organizational goals.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people.
  • Ability to have a pro-active approach to internal systems and have an innovative mindset.
  • Proven track record of developing authentic relationships with others internally and externally.
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborations with community organizations.
  • Understanding of the nature and purpose of the YMCA and the respective roles of volunteers and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support teams across multiple OST program sites
  • Ensure programs are safe, fun, and fully compliant with childcare licensing standards
  • Build strong relationships with families, schools, and community partners
  • Hire, coach, and develop staff who bring energy and care to their work
  • Keep programs running smoothly—staffing, scheduling, and daily operations
  • Create environments where every child feels welcome and supported
  • Ensure the delivery of high-quality Out of School Time programming aligned with YMCA standards, SEAL practices, academic support, and a whole-child approach.
  • Oversee the planning, implementation, and evaluation of weekly program activities to ensure consistency, engagement, and developmental appropriateness.
  • Continuously assess program effectiveness and implement improvements to enhance participant experience across OST and Camp programs.
  • Provide supervision, coaching, and accountability to ensure staff adhere to YMCA standards, licensing requirements, and school district policies.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive team culture that reflects YMCA values and supports staff engagement and retention.
  • Ensure compliance with state licensing regulations, YMCA policies, and school district requirements in partnership with Licensing and Risk Management teams.
  • Collaborate with health consultants (e.g., nurse consultant) to ensure all participant health plans are properly implemented and followed.
  • Implement and monitor policies and procedures to support safe, efficient, and effective program operations.
  • Step into staff-to-child ratios as needed to maintain safe supervision and program continuity.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with school administration, families, and community partners to support program success.
  • Ensure clear, consistent, and proactive communication with families and stakeholders.
  • Address and resolve program concerns or escalations in a timely, professional, and solutions-oriented manner.
  • Effectively communicate the YMCA’s mission and community impact to stakeholders and partners.
  • Collaborate across departments to support a “One YMCA” approach and ensure alignment of goals, communication, and staffing.
  • Partner with internal leaders to support multi-department staff coordination and operational consistency.
