About The Position

The Operations Manager is a key leadership role responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the facility. This position drives daily plant performance, champions operational excellence, and ensures successful execution of the Operating Plan. The Operations Manager identifies improvement opportunities, optimizes plant processes, and maintains all operating conditions within optimal limits. This role also provides strategic oversight of the site’s Environmental Program and partners closely with the Maintenance Manager to uphold all NERC compliance requirements. The Operations Manager sets high standards for safety, performance, and professionalism, ensuring alignment with plant policies, regulatory expectations, and industry best practices.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of progressively responsible experience in a power plant environment, including power plant operations; combined‑cycle experience strongly preferred, with at least 7 years in a management role demonstrating advancement and results
  • Supervisory and leadership experience overseeing hourly employees, directing project‑related work, and managing contractors, budgets, and cost controls
  • Strong technical expertise in plant operations, including thermal and electrical systems, with the ability to analyze operational results, diagnose equipment failures, and implement efficiency and reliability improvements
  • Working knowledge of NERC compliance requirements and the ability to ensure adherence to applicable standards, supported by familiarity with distributed control systems, digital logic, networking, and CEMS/DAHS systems (preferred)
  • Experience using real‑time performance management tools (e.g., OSI PI) to monitor heat rate and efficiency, along with proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with Maximo CMMS
  • Strong communication and decision‑making skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, adapt in a dynamic operating environment, collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, and make sound decisions under pressure
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Ability to stand for extended periods, climb stairs and ladders, lift up to 50 pounds, and a respirator when required
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory for certain tasks
  • Work may involve exposure to hazardous materials
  • Position requires extended hours, rotating shifts, and occasional weekend or holiday work based on plant needs
  • Participation in the Fitness for Duty Program is required, including pre‑employment and random drug screening
  • Smoking restrictions apply throughout the facility

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop the operations team to maintain safe, reliable, and efficient plant performance
  • Maximize thermal and electrical output while ensuring optimal efficiency
  • Monitor plant conditions and communicate normal, abnormal, or emergency situations to the Plant Manager; take decisive corrective action as needed
  • Oversee the operation, inspection, and control of all power production and auxiliary equipment to ensure continuous, compliant, and efficient operation
  • Ensure emissions and effluents remain within permitted limits; proactively prevent safety incidents, environmental excursions, and production losses
  • Regularly review and update plant policies and procedures to reflect current goals, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices
  • Strengthen operational continuity through effective training, coaching, and development of plant personnel
  • Issue new operating procedures and revise existing ones to ensure safe, accurate, and efficient plant operations
  • Analyze operating results and equipment failures to identify efficiency improvements, cost‑saving opportunities, and performance enhancements
  • Partner with the Maintenance Manager to evaluate equipment condition, prioritize maintenance activities, and optimize plant performance
  • Partner with the EHS Manager on the development and delivery of environmental and NERC training programs; maintain accurate training records
  • Conduct periodic testing and evaluations; recommend improvement projects with supporting cost justifications
  • Encourage internal development of improvement projects to reduce contractor reliance and control costs
  • Provide the Plant Manager with timely insights on equipment availability, reliability, and key performance indicators
  • Motivate, guide, and supervise operations personnel through effective communication, performance management, and leadership
  • Assign projects and tasks to ensure balanced workloads, adequate work‑order backlog, and broad exposure to plant systems for staff development
  • Sustain high morale, address employee concerns promptly, and foster a culture of accountability and excellence
  • Directly manage 4 Production Technician Leaders and 12 Production Technicians
  • Prepare departmental budgets and provide recommendations for operating and capital expenditures
  • Ensure accurate reporting and timely submission of environmental, NERC, and other regulatory documentation
  • All employees are expected to remain alert, engaged, and always committed to safe work practices.
  • Supervisors play a critical role in ensuring safe operations, and performance in this area is a key component of leadership evaluation

Benefits

  • We offer a competitive salary range of $107,600 - $156,350 per year, commensurate with experience, education, and skills.
