About The Position

The Manager of Training and Development serves as the strategic operations partner for clinical training across all Ohio MVP practices, including Northeast Ohio Eye Surgeons, Cleveland Eye Clinic, Lee Eye Center, and Parschauer Eye Center. This role is responsible for centralizing, standardizing, and elevating clinical onboarding and staff development, ensuring that every new clinical employee, including Patient Service Representatives, Ophthalmic Technicians, Ophthalmic Scribes, Surgery Schedulers, and Opticians, receives a structured, competency-based, high-quality onboarding experience and white-glove training service from day one. The Manager develops personalized training schedules, identifies and validates in-clinic trainers, and makes real-time adjustments for call-offs or staffing changes to maintain onboarding continuity. They facilitate final skills assessments to confirm readiness before a new hire graduates to full clinic responsibilities. In addition to in-clinic training, this role hosts weekly virtual Technician Academy sessions, delivering theory lessons and role overviews that complement hands-on shadowing and support operational readiness. The Manager also refines training content for each role as needed to ensure all staff receive targeted, role-specific education and skill development. Beyond onboarding, the Manager supports ongoing skill development, cross-training, and career growth, building a highly skilled workforce aligned with MVP operational standards and patient care expectations, all delivered with a white-glove service approach that prioritizes staff confidence, readiness, and professional growth. This position requires weekly travel throughout Ohio to support multi-site training implementation and oversight. To centralize, standardize, and elevate clinical onboarding and staff development across MVP's Ohio and Michigan practices, beginning with a Manager of Training and Development for CEC, NEOES, LEC, and PEC. This strategy removes primary training ownership from Practice Managers, enabling them to focus on clinic operations, patient flow, and provider productivity. Training is centralized as a core operational function, ensuring new clinical employees enter the clinic confident, competent, and ready to perform from day one. Requirements

  • Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) required; COT or COMT preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of ophthalmic technician or scribe experience; prior management, mentorship, or training leadership strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of ophthalmology workflows, clinical operations, and patient service functions.
  • Excellent teaching, communication, and interpersonal skills with a service-minded approach.
  • Organized, self-directed, and able to adapt to multiple practice environments and learning styles.
  • Proficiency with ophthalmic diagnostic equipment, EMR systems (Nextech preferred), and Google Workspace tools.
  • Passion for coaching, developing others, and delivering a "white glove" training experience.
  • Ability to travel to multiple locations weekly.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the contact for clinical onboarding across Midwest Vision Partners Ohio platforms, including the design and management of individualized, competency-based training schedules for all new hires.
  • Conduct weekly check-ins during onboarding and monthly check-ins through the first year of employment to support readiness, engagement, and retention.
  • Identify, train, validate, and monitor in-clinic trainers, providing ongoing feedback and making adjustments as needed to ensure training quality, consistency, and coverage across locations.
  • Facilitate final training assessments and bi-annual competency evaluations, confirming skill proficiency and readiness for independent practice.
  • Provide and assign targeted training content, coaching, and mentorship for new and existing staff to address skill gaps, cross-training needs, competency maintenance, and career advancement.
  • Host weekly virtual Technician Academy sessions, delivering role-based theory instruction that complements hands-on training.
  • Deliver and reinforce competency-based training and MVP standards of patient care, including clinical skills, EMR documentation and scribing, patient flow, exam room efficiency, and hand hygiene and exam lane disinfection.
  • Manage JCAHPO enrollment and removal for applicable clinical staff.
  • Ensure all in-clinic training and shadowing is performed by experienced and authorized trainers.
  • Monitor and confirm the accuracy and completion of training schedules at each site.
  • Provide on-site support during training visits to ensure smooth clinic operations.
  • Promote adherence to clinical policies, quality measures, and patient safety protocols.
  • Provide weekly progress updates on new hire training, staff competencies, and development needs.
  • Collaborate with clinic leadership to identify staffing gaps, workflow improvements, and training priorities.
  • Prepare proposals and solutions for operational or training challenges before presenting to leadership.
  • Dedicating either Monday or Friday to scheduling, planning, reporting, and follow-up (5–10 hours/week), with the other day on-site supporting training needs.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all training activities, skills validations, and competency results in the LMS system.
  • Ensure all training aligns with OSHA, HIPAA, and MVP compliance standards.
  • Update and maintain training materials, manuals, and competency checklists.
