About The Position

Boston Dynamics is seeking an electrical engineering manager for the Spot Sustaining Team. In this role, you will be responsible for all aspects of spot electrical sustaining activities including bug root cause identification, bug corrective action, component obsolescence resolution, and design iteration. In addition to management responsibilities, you will also contribute individually alongside your team. The ideal candidate will enjoy wearing both management and individual contributor hats, excel in a fast-paced dynamic environment, and enjoy solving challenging issues with complex electronic systems. How you will make an impact: Be accountable for all electrical engineering sustaining activities for the Spot product ecosystem that directly impact production, service, and customer satisfaction metrics Manage a small team of electrical engineers responsible for Spot circuit boards and electrical systems spanning processing, sensing, actuation, and power Leverage your broad knowledge of electrical engineering and product development to work alongside the team as an individual contributor Function as a consensus-first leader with the capability to drive when necessary Foster a positive work culture where everyone is supported to do their best work in a safe, fun, and collaborative environment Triage all production, service, and field electrical bugs; assign owners, monitor progress, and drive resolution Represent the team across the broader organization, including in high-visibility briefings to leadership on critical issues Develop a component second-sourcing strategy and resolve component obsolescence issues Review Spot sustaining ECOs Create and refine development processes to improve quality and efficiency Mentor, grow, and develop team members

Requirements

  • BS in electrical engineering, computer engineering, robotics, or closely related field
  • Prior people management and/or technical leadership experience
  • 8+ years of electrical design experience
  • Excellent people leadership skills
  • Strong embedded computing and robotics systems knowledge
  • Sound judgement and decision-making skills, with a proven ability to drive resolution of complex electrical issues
  • Experience with product development
  • Experience with schematic capture and PCB layout software (e.g. Altium)
  • Familiarity with common PLM software (e.g. Arena)
  • Basic Linux skills

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of formal root cause analysis tools
  • Prior experience standing up a second sourcing strategy for electrical components
  • Software development skills to be able to modify production code for experimentation
  • Software scripting skills to automate processes and analyze data
  • Knowledge of circuit board manufacturing DfX and best practices
