About The Position

The Social Work Manager has leadership responsibility of the daily operations of the department including, clinical, staffing, quality, and reviewing and revising policies and procedures. Ensures compliance with performance improvement processes and all regulatory bodies. Ensures an effective delivery of Social Services that is compliant and consistent with standards of practice. Implements strategies, processes, and standards to ensure operations support the key organizational and departmental initiatives such as quality of care and patient safety. Promotes collegial relationships between the unit and other departments or disciplines across the hospital. Responsible for employee coaching, training, hiring, counseling/discipline, performance assessment and payroll processes.

Requirements

  • Current Licensure as a Social Worker (LCSW) in the State of California
  • Master’s degree in social work (MSW)
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced multidisciplinary environment
  • Strong time management skills and ability to effectively prioritize task
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within the organization
  • Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English
  • Hospital Fire and Life Safety Card (Los Angeles City Employees only

Nice To Haves

  • Two (2) years of experience out of the last five (5) years as a Licensed Social Worker (LCSW) to provide clinical supervision for Associate Social Workers (ASWs) or other mental health trainees

Responsibilities

  • Manages the daily operations of the Social Services department.
  • Demonstrates advanced level of expertise, strong leadership and collaborative skills in dealing with staff and members of the healthcare team.
  • Consistently ensures practice is within scope of licensure and compliant with hospital wide standards of Social Services.
  • Ensures institutional compliance with professional, accrediting and regulatory standards of care.
  • Ensures HIPAA compliance.
  • Ensures appropriate staffing levels.
  • Oversees contract labor/services, including appropriate credentialing, orientation and evaluation.
  • Responsible for scheduling/staffing, coaching, training, hiring, firing, counseling, performance evaluations and competencies, and payroll process.
  • Reviews and revises policies, procedures including the subacute unit in conjunction with the Regional Director.
  • Collaborates with staff and members of the healthcare team, ensuring the coordination of care between other disciplines and support staff.
  • Delegates Social Services activities to appropriate members of the healthcare team, provides effective leadership and ensures that service is safe and of high quality.
  • Acts as a source of information and articulately responds to questions, providing resources, guidance, and education about Social Services.
  • Empathizes with patient and patient support systems, expresses compassion and understanding for the situation and demonstrates care which is appropriate for the age, and cultural, religious, gender identity, or ethnic background.
  • Engages in caring behaviors, taking conscious ownership for work and takes deliberate/thoughtful actions regarding how to best carry out interactions with the patient, families, physicians, and co-workers.
  • Maintain a case load of patients as a working manager.
  • If licensed for at least two (2) of the past five (5) years, conduct weekly supervision and provides clinical oversight of ACSWs employed by the organization for clinical hours needed to obtain licensure.
  • Adheres to all regulations implemented by the Board of Behavioral Sciences related to clinical supervision of ACSWs.
  • Ensures department performance, quality, and process improvement.
  • Oversees Social Services quality control policies; documents all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations, and maintenance performed.
  • Appropriately educates and mentors.
  • Demonstrates problem-solving, critical thinking, and prioritization of work to resolve issues as they arise in an appropriate and timely manner.
