About The Position

​​​The Manager of Risk Management, Claims and Insurance, will identify and take actions to control risks and losses in the areas of property, casualty and financial products. The Manager of Risk Management will manage insurance claims and related litigation. The Manager of Risk Management will also assist in legal issues including assessment of contract risks, insurance coverage issues and claim matters. In conjunction with the Safety Department, the Manager of Risk Management oversees the Company worker’s compensation program. The Manager of Risk Management also advises on proposals and contracts for projects in connection with risk management issues. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably in business administration, accounting, or related field.
  • Requires at least eight years’ experience in commercial insurance and risk management; engineering and construction in-house risk management experience preferred.
  • Additionally, legal experience managing claims and outside counsel preferred.
  • Ability to read, comprehend, analyze, and write insurance documents and certain legal documents.
  • Ability to read, comprehend laws and regulations in the risk management area.
  • Ability to articulate legal position and arguments in negotiations.
  • Skills necessary to calculate retrospective rating plans, calculation of experience modifiers, compilation of statistical data for losses, calculate loss ratios and negotiate favorable terms and conditions for all insurance programs.
  • Ability to hear, stand, walk, reach, climb and balance, clear close and distant vision, and depth perception and ability to focus.
  • Ability to work extended and irregular hours.
  • Lifting approximately 40 pounds may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Advises on submittal of claims to carriers and oversees insurance defended litigation, including communication with outside counsel.
  • Manages, assesses, and investigates all insured claims.
  • Negotiates insured settlements.
  • Supports legal department with contract reviews and other legal issues, including commenting on client proposals and draft contracts.
  • Advises on changes to contracts regarding insurance/risk issues.
  • Negotiates placement of commercial insurance policies – interfaces directly with brokers and underwriters in marketing, placement of plans, property and casualty programs – foreign & domestic.
  • Manages captive insurance programs.
  • Manages external partnerships with third party insurance brokers, third party administrator’s and insurance companies to achieve claim resolution.
  • Interface with third party legal and risk management teams on various risk control initiatives.
  • Compiles claim statistics for internal review and assessment.
  • Prepares comprehensive written reports and presentations to senior leadership and Board of Directors on insurance and risk management programs.
  • Analyzes and recommends cost control measures related to workers’ compensation claims and the return to work program.
  • Calculates retrospective adjustments for workers’ compensation and calculates/projects workers’ compensation experience modifier.
  • Reviews and participates in Contractor's/Owner Controlled Insurance Program (CCIP/OCIP) assessments and places Builder’s All Risk policies.
  • Reviews and advises on corporate policies regarding insurance and risk issues; drives safety and compliance initiatives.
  • Represents the Company before state and local agencies.
  • Provides support for mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, and construction and engineering projects.
  • Attends claims review meetings with insurance carriers and senior management.
  • Oversees document collection and responses to insurance company audits.
  • Oversees issuance and maintenance of certificates of insurance, and reconciliation of monthly invoices.
