We are hiring a Manager, Rail Fleet and Track Maintenance to be based in either Atlanta, GA, or Birmingham, AL.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree OR equivalent (5+) years of experience in rail operations, specifically maintaining and/or working on railcars, components and rail/track infrastructure.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to travel 15+ days a month across Vulcan's footprint.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to identify issues, evaluate options, and implement proactive solutions.

Nice To Haves

  • Certifications such as Welding Inspector, NACE Coating Inspector Level 1, Track Safety Inspector.
  • Mechanical or civil engineering background with limited direct rail experience.

Responsibilities

  • Promote Safety by prioritizing safety for yourself and others to ensure all assigned operations have zero accidents and are in total compliance with all Vulcan policies and procedures.
  • Provide training to staff on rail safety protocols, inspection procedures, and proper maintenance practices.
  • Lead and perform inspections of railcars, locomotives, track, and related infrastructure to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Identify and document defects or safety hazards, recommending corrective actions.
  • Investigate rail incidents or accidents to determine causes and develop preventive measures.
  • Implement a strategic and user-friendly schedule for maintenance of Vulcan's railcar and locomotive fleet.
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, maintenance activities, compliance reports, and metrics.
  • Develop and implement best practices for railcar loading, unloading, and maintenance.
  • Ensure timely routine services and schedule major/minor component replacements appropriately.
  • Optimize utilization, minimize downtime, avoid unnecessary charges, and maximize tons shipped by rail.
  • Audit Billing Repair Cards (BRC) from shops to ensure compliance with standards and billing accuracy.
  • Work closely with stakeholders on building specifications, justification, and selection of equipment.
  • Manage, maintain, evaluate, and strengthen relationships and performance of railcar maintenance contractors.
  • Provide leadership by identifying and coordinating with others to provide internal rail-related safety and operational training.
