About The Position

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, public relations, or related field preferred.
  • Three years of experience in public relations, media relations, or professional writing.
  • Strong creative writing skills and ability to communicate clearly and succinctly.
  • Experience interacting with diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Effective team dynamics and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately.
  • Excellent problem-solving, critical thinking, and analytical skills.
  • Proficient in Windows applications including Word and Excel, and PR software like Muck Rack.
  • Flexible schedule to accommodate events during evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Proficiency in Spanish preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop integrated marketing plans to support museum initiatives and revenue growth.
  • Plan and implement public and media relations strategies for media coverage.
  • Collaborate with the social media team to coordinate PR stories and messaging.
  • Write press alerts, press releases, and stories with SEO considerations.
  • Research and maintain event and exhibit information for media outreach.
  • Write talking points for exhibits and events to align with the museum's brand.
  • Cultivate relationships with local, regional, and national media.
  • Maintain a database of media contacts and manage media inquiries.
  • Prepare museum staff for media interviews and lead media training.
  • Coordinate media relations for community events to enhance visibility.
  • Serve as a spokesperson for the museum and represent it in the community.
  • Participate in crisis communications and strategize sensitive communications.
  • Organize and maintain social media and digital content for the museum.
