About The Position

Overall Summary: The Manager of Operations provides strong leadership and supervision to their teams to ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of production objectives. They collaborate closely with other team members to oversee daily plant operations. Supervisory Responsibilities: The person in this role will manage a team of Operations Supervisors in the Envelope and Pressroom department. Primary Duties/Responsibilities: Establish standards of performance; measure against responsibilities and accountabilities. Mentor, direct and develop department supervisors. Follow company policies, procedures and programs and interpret and communicate with direct reports. Collaborate with leaders in the development of budgets, objectives, policies, plans and programs. Lead the department in fulfilling internal/external client expectations; keep leadership informed of production issues. Ensure accuracy and efficiency of end-product and verify quality standards and production schedules are followed. Maintain sufficient staffing and cross training to execute production requirements. Ensure material flow processes are properly identified and documented; study and utilize production records to obtain high productivity with a minimum of spoilage and non-chargeable time. Keep apprised of pertinent industry-related technological progress; provide recommendations for strategic advantage Meet measurement goals including waste reduction, billable hours, utilization improvement, spoilage and rework. Identify and address opportunities to improve quality and reduce rework with key objectives of zero defects. Complete Gemba walks to monitor compliance and understand, identify Lean opportunities, and ensure “5 S.” Ensure compliance with all environmental, safety, and health regulations. Follow all established safety procedures and applicable regulations. Model and foster a positive workplace culture; take accountability for overall team performance. Provide constructive and timely performance evaluations for direct reports. Coach and develop direct reports. Promote safety as a number one priority. Enter and manage PTO for direct reports. Perform other (or other related) duties as applicable or assigned.

Requirements

  • Microsoft Office Suite proficiency; Foundation experience a plus.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated well-developed strategic thinking.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of USPS regulations.
  • Effectively manage pressure under rapidly fluctuating workloads and deadlines, communicate any risks/issues clearly; escalate issues appropriately.
  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Business or manufacturing degree (will consider comparable industry experience in lieu of education).
  • 7+ years of manufacturing/production experience.
  • 3+ years proven supervisory or management experience in a manufacturing capacity, preferably within the printing, bindery or direct response industry.
  • Ability to work 8 hours consecutively.
  • Ability to provide after-hours support as needed.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Ability to maintain an occasional physical presence on the production floor.
  • Ability to lift, carry and push/pull up to 35 pounds as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual a plus.
  • Previous participation on a safety team and/or other safety training preferred.
  • Lean manufacturing and/or quality control training preferred.
