About The Position

The Manager of Membership Services is responsible for managing MPTA’s membership operations, meetings, and events while contributing to the implementation of strategic initiatives that strengthen member engagement, value, and organizational effectiveness. This role blends hands‑on coordination and administration with problem‑solving, initiative, and strategic support. The Manager works closely with the Executive Director and other staff to execute elements of MPTA’s strategic workplan related to membership growth, programs, communications, and governance, while ensuring day‑to‑day operations run smoothly. Reports to Executive Director.

Responsibilities

  • Membership Administration and Engagement
  • Maintain accurate and up to date membership records for transit agencies, specialized service providers, business members, and non-members.
  • Issue, track, and record annual membership dues invoices and coordinate follow up as needed.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for members, maintaining positive relationships and responding to questions or requests.
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, and retention efforts by helping communicate MPTA’s value and connecting members to relevant programs and resources.
  • Monitor membership participation and engagement trends and assist with reporting and analysis.
  • Board, Committee, and Governance Support
  • Prepare and distribute Board of Directors meeting materials, including agendas, reports, and supporting documents.
  • Attend Board meetings and record, finalize, and publish meeting minutes.
  • Support MPTA committees by coordinating meetings, materials, and communications as requested.
  • Assist with efforts to improve committee effectiveness, member participation, and governance practices.
  • Programs & Events
  • Coordinate planning and execution of MPTA programs and events, including:
  • Legislative Day
  • Rural Transit Managers Workshop (RTMW)
  • Transit Vehicle Maintenance Seminar (TVMS)
  • Michigan Public Transportation Conference
  • Conduct site visits and recommend venues for meetings and events.
  • Manage event registration, attendee tracking, and invoicing.
  • Coordinate event logistics, including:
  • Budget planning and expense tracking
  • Hotel contract coordination and room block management
  • Registration setup, communications, and reporting
  • Meal functions, receptions, activities, and special events (including the annual conference golf tournament)
  • Event technology and on-site support
  • Coordinate sponsorship and exhibitor participation for MPTA events, including communications, registration, invoicing, logistics, and fulfillment of recognition benefits.
  • Serve as a primary relationship manager for sponsors and exhibitors by developing leads and ensuring value through well‑organized experiences.
  • Assist with post event evaluation and recommend improvements to enhance member value and participation.
  • Strategic & Initiative‑Based Support
  • Support implementation of MPTA’s strategic goals related to membership growth, engagement, programs, and communications.
  • Identify opportunities to improve member experience, administrative processes, or program delivery and share recommendations with staff leadership.
  • Assist in the development of member surveys, benchmarking tools, and resource materials that support transit agencies and demonstrate MPTA’s value.
  • Help pilot or support new initiatives such as webinars, resource‑sharing efforts, or updated engagement approaches.
  • Communications & Systems Support
  • Assist with managing and updating content on the MPTA website, social media, and member communications platforms.
  • Support continuous improvement of member newsletters and targeted communications.
  • Oversee CRM functions related to membership records, event registration, email communications, and engagement tracking.
  • Other Duties
  • Provide general office and administrative support as needed, including occasional mail and phone duties.
  • Support research and development of original resources and value‑added materials for members.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
