About The Position

The position involves overseeing the daily patient care activities of the nursing units at Northern Maine Medical Center. The individual will be responsible for scheduling staff to ensure full coverage of patient care needs, coaching and mentoring employees, and coordinating services with other patient care units. The role requires active participation in quality assurance activities, program development, and maintaining compliance with operational standards. The individual will also be involved in nursing administrative functions, including performance evaluations and clinical quality audits, while directly supervising nursing staff and managing daily operations to ensure efficient workflow and effective communication.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing and holds current Maine RN license.
  • Minimum of 7 years of nursing experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of leadership experience as a manager or higher-level position.
  • Current Maine Nursing License and CPR/BLS Certification.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing.
  • 5 years of leadership experience preferred.
  • ACLS and PALS certifications (required within 6 months of hire).

Responsibilities

  • Monitors and coordinates daily patient care activities of the nursing units.
  • Schedules staff to ensure full coverage of patient care needs.
  • Coaches, mentors, and trains employees performing related work.
  • Coordinates services with other patient care units and maintains communication with allied services.
  • Participates in quality assurance activities and compliance with operational standards.
  • Assists nursing leadership in program development and implementation of operating policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and application of hospital policies and procedures.
  • Identifies and makes recommendations for department process improvements.
  • Participates in nursing administrative functions including performance evaluations and clinical quality audits.
  • Directly supervises and develops nursing staff, including creating schedules and providing guidance.
  • Manages daily operations of the nursing unit ensuring efficient workflow and communication.
  • Addresses staff absences and personnel issues.
  • Ensures patients receive adequate care and monitors patient flow.
  • Makes rounds on patients and communicates information to families.
  • Acts as a liaison between patients, families, and hospital staff.
