About The Position

Reporting to the Associate Director for Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center (SCCC) Clinical Research Operations, works under limited supervision to implement, oversee, and evaluate the programmatic activities associated with all business operations associated with clinical research in the SCCC Clinical Research Office (CRO). The Manager will be expected to perform the following job duties: 1. Team Oversight and integration a. Provide leadership and oversight to teams handling AR/AP, departmental financial metrics, and salary sourcing. Helping to facilitate collaboration to integrate workflow 2. Strategic planning and process improvement a. Identify opportunities to streamline operations, reduce redundancies and enhance efficiency in clinical trial finance. b. Develop and implement best practices, dashboards, and metrics to support decision-making. c. Partner with CRO and institutional leadership to translate operational data into strategic insights. 3. Platform implementation & optimization a. Lead or support implementation of new operational or financial platforms. b. Ensure platform adoptions across all relevant teams and alignment with strategic goals. c. Identify opportunities for automation and improved reporting. 4. Stakeholder Collaboration a. Serve as the central pint of contact for finance, operations, and research teams on clinical trial process. b. Communication updates, challenges, and strategic recommendations to leadership c. Facilitate meetings and initiatives that align teams and drive cross functional solutions. 5. Leadership & Accountability a. Foster a culture of collaboration, proactive problem-solving, and continuous improvement. 6. Admin support a. Oversee the CRO Administrative Team, ensuring they effectively support clinical research operations. b. Provide guidance, training, and support to ensure the team operates efficiently and aligns with broader operational goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in science, social science, healthcare administration, or a related field
  • 7 years of administration in research experience preferably in information resources and finance or regulatory/ clinical research administration respectively; including
  • 3 years in a management role and
  • Experience with oncology clinical trials administration
  • Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered in lieu of degree.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for CRO departmental tracking related to all aspects of business operations including but not limited to key metrics measured by the Cancer Center CRO in support of NCI designation, time to study activation, accrual, clinical trials patient calendars, clinical trial revenues and payables, and staffing metrics. This responsibility includes assessment of need, design of tracking tools, as well as implementation and training.
  • Includes preparing long-term vision and organizational structure of the unit to ensure maximum efficiencies related to CRO operations.
  • Partner with relevant department and institutional teams to identify, implement and maintain appropriate financial software and database applications specific to Cancer Center CRO priorities and initiatives.
  • Provide strategic consultation and guidance to senior leadership regarding business proposals and make recommendations for optimizing the operational impact of business initiatives.
  • Work closely with the Associate Director of SCCC Clinical Research Operations to ensure effective execution of unit functions as required to meet the expectations of the Cancer Center Support Grant. Includes preparation of and maintenance of data for NCI submissions.
  • Oversee Clinical Research Office (CRO) business operations team, which consist of informatics project manager, finance project manager, accountant(s), financial analyst(s) and clinical trials coverage analyst(s) responsible for oversight of all financial activities related to cancer clinical trials.
  • Oversee design and preparation of monthly and quarterly reports for clinical trial disease oriented teams including but not limited to monthly DOT and CRO summary of clinical trial revenue and payables, quarterly salary sourcing reports, supplemental funds distribution, and special reports as requested by management.
  • Work closely with Academic Information Systems (AIS) and Sponsor Program Administration (SPA) to ensure implementation of various system upgrades are seamless as far as they affect Cancer Center and CRO work product and verify data integrity before and after upgrades.
  • Oversees training to Investigators and staff to ensure accurate completion of data entry within the clinical trials management system and other systems needed to accurately track clinical trials activities.
  • Ensures cost-effective use of resources (equipment, supplies, etc.) by implementing internal controls for sensitive documents which provide assurance, safeguarded information.
  • Works with informatics project manager to collect, interpret data, and follow specific requirements to develop new and revise existing software applications. Develops and implements operational plans for new and existing business computer applications. Identify problems with computer systems and provides technical/trouble shooting assistance to all employees of the CRO with related computer and other system issues as needed.
  • Monitor accountability of staff regarding adherence to Standard Operation Procedures (SOPs) and provides developmental training as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
