About The Position

The Payroll and Benefits Manager is responsible for overseeing and performing the reconciliation of payroll elements in Oracle to the general ledger accounts and the close process for all benefits. The role focuses on payroll and benefits recording, compliance with regulations and GAAP, reconciliations, financial analysis, and collaboration with the payroll and benefit teams. This position supports Atlantic Health’s financial integrity through meticulous record keeping and detailed reconciliation processes related to payroll and benefits as well as overall responsibility for the annual audits of multiple retirement plans. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, CPA required.
  • 5 or more years’ experience in accounting related to pension plans, benefit plans and payroll.
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • PC knowledge; proficient in Excel, general knowledge of Teams and G/L system maintenance (Oracle Cloud preferred).
  • Multi-task effectively and not be easily overwhelmed by a fast pace during month-end close.
  • Be detail-oriented, have excellent communication skills, and a strong collaborative mindset.
  • Be flexible, proactive and think critically to resolve issues.
  • Experience accounting for defined benefit and defined contributions plans, ensuring compliance with ERISA, IRS and DOL regulations

Responsibilities

  • Oversees the process and reconciliation of weekly payroll journal entries, accruals and adjustments, ensuring they are accurately recorded in the general ledger and that payroll element mapping is correct.
  • Oversee the accounting for defined benefit and defined contributions plans, ensuring compliance with ERISA, IRS and DOL regulations
  • Review and analyze accrued payroll and benefit accounts, investigating variances, and documenting findings for reporting.
  • Collaborate extensively with members of the payroll, human resources and benefit teams to ensure proper treatment of monthly activity, changes made to plans and identifying and resolving discrepancies in a timely manner.
  • Review and guide treasury supervisor to ensure the payroll back reconciliations are complete and accurate in a timely manner.
  • Supports and assists in payroll and benefit forecasting on an interim basis as well as assisting in the preparation of related annual budgets.
  • Assist in the maintenance and upgrades of the general ledger (Oracle Cloud) reporting system
  • Assist in coordination with the actuaries related to various ERISA plans and several insurance plans for annual reporting, prepare journal entries to adjust balance sheet and expense balances.
  • Prepare/review workpapers for external auditors and assists with interim and year end audits for AHS Hospital Corp.
  • Prepare and review the multiple plans financial statements and disclosures, work independently with external auditors and filling of the 5500’s.
  • Revise, establish and implement accounting policies and procedures as necessary.
  • Assists/covers co-workers as needed.
