The Manager of Academic Appointments and Payroll plays a crucial role in overseeing the review and initial approval of appointment paperwork for over 5,000 academic personnel at Columbia University's Office of EVP Arts & Sciences. This position is responsible for ensuring accuracy, timely processing, and compliance with university policies regarding academic appointments. The incumbent will manage salary accounting, train new administrators on the appointment process, and identify areas for process improvement. The role requires collaboration with the Executive Director of Academic Appointments and Payroll, as well as central offices, to implement necessary changes in procedures and policies. In addition to managing appointment paperwork, the Manager will serve as a resource for departments, centers, and institutes regarding university policies for appointing academic staff. This includes advising on the quality of data related to academic personnel and ensuring that all documentation is complete and accurate. The Manager will also participate in the annual reappointment and merit process for students and researchers, ensuring that all Officers of Research receive accurate reappointment letters and that any incomplete documentation is addressed in a timely manner. The position requires continuous assessment of hiring processes to ensure that appointment processing is both accurate and timely. The Manager will develop and implement new processes as directed by the Executive Director, and will also be responsible for reviewing and approving electronic rosters for part-time faculty and students, ensuring that appointment letters are accurate for all individuals involved. Furthermore, the Manager will process additional compensation for part-time faculty and student officers, ensuring compliance with university policies, and will collaborate with various departments to resolve payroll issues and ensure accurate budget allocation.
