To ensure a safe manufacturing environment, our Occupational Health and Safety Engineering team plays a crucial role in hazard prevention, conducting safety audits, providing training, and implementing risk mitigation strategies. The Manager, Occupational Safety is accountable for the performance and results of the Occupational Safety team. The role ensures the administration of plant-wide safety processes, emergency response planning, and compliance with regulations, with consistency in a timely manner.

Requirements

  • Expertise in interpreting and administering corporate health and safety policies, safety regulations, and best practices.
  • Experience in analyzing trends and providing guidance to contribute to the company's effort to prevent employee injuries and illnesses.
  • Ability to manage staffing, performance, discipline, pay decisions, team development, and other personnel actions.

Responsibilities

  • Interprets and administers company policies and conducts programs related to risk assessment, hazard identification, incident investigations, inspections, audits, safety culture and engagement, etc. to prevent accidents and hazards at the workplace.
  • Manages plant and facility-wide safety processes and initiatives including the company's Safety Operating System (SOS), emergency response planning and training, and off-standard approvals, with consistency in a timely manner.
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local safety laws, regulations, and corporate policies through collaboration with the plant and network medical, security functions, and UAW Health and Safety representatives.
  • Distributes and assigns tasks to the regional and facility Occupational Safety team, serves as a primary point of contact for regular inspections and audits to identify and assess workplace hazards.
  • Reviews new equipment for safety concerns, develops activity hazard analysis, completes preventive maintenance procedures, etc.
  • Guides the regional and facility Occupational Safety team on accident prevention plans, and associated processes, procedures, and standards.
  • Manages completion and timely submission of regional and plant-specific entry forms and physical plant entry for all projects.
  • Develops and monitors KPIs for tracking safety incidents, injury statistics, corrective actions, training hours, resolution time, etc.
  • Develops internal reports for senior Health and Safety management, Legal & Compliance, and onsite facility/plant management teams.
  • Leads the administration of department-specific ergonomics training, general and fire safety trainings, machinery and equipment safety trainings.
  • Conducts assessments to identify the need for new training programs and administers the same.
  • Communicates effectively with statutory authorities, regulatory bodies, and corporate representatives.
  • Participates in the delivery of global, regional, and facility Occupational Safety specific communication, standards, and practices.
  • Reviews and updates Occupational Safety policies to ensure compliance with relevant laws and corporate safety policies.
  • Performs talent management responsibilities including performance management, professional development, succession planning, disciplinary action, terminations, recruitment, pay decisions, and other personnel actions.
