About The Position

The Indianapolis Public Library is seeking a Manager for the Neighborhood Branch. A successful candidate will have an MLS degree, 3 to 5 years of previous work experience in a library, previous experience hiring, training, and supervising staff (preferred), experience developing partnerships with neighborhood groups, as well as overseeing service plans and programs, Indiana Librarian Certification 2 - Branch or Department Head, and be bilingual (English/ Spanish preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Hire, train and evaluate performance management for assigned personnel and volunteers.
  • Conduct regular staff meetings to communicate information to staff, listen to staff concerns and report them to senior management as appropriate.
  • Direct the plans for services and programs for the community; schedule, deliver and evaluate based on feedback from participants, changing demographics, customer needs and interests.
  • Direct staff in maintenance of the collection.
  • Recommend new materials, organize displays to promote the collection, evaluate and discard damaged or lesser used titles.
  • Oversee maintenance and security of branch building and grounds.
  • Monitor patron behavior and inform patrons of library guidelines.
  • Develop appropriate partnerships with neighborhood groups and maintain a library presence in the community through presentations, e-mail, social media and publicity.
  • Provide information by searching or recommending print or electronic sources or titles, placing material requests, searching shelves, or by referral to other libraries or community sources.
  • Instruct patrons in using online catalog, print and electronic sources to access information, and in using computers and equipment.
  • Collect and analyze data on library use, services, trends and community resources.
  • Oversee department budget.
