About The Position

This individual will serve as the department lead for scheduling of WMRE’s natural gas and pipeline capacity, while providing support for the monetization of WMRE’s natural gas and pipeline capacity portfolio. In addition to monitoring timely and accurately nominations and imbalances on pipeline Electronic Bulletin Boards (EBBs) there will be some opportunities to trade the physical commodity associated with WMRE’s 24 RNG facilities located across the United States and Canada. They will be recognized across the organization for their expertise in gas scheduling, their ability to reevaluate pipeline capacity requirements, and to schedule across a wide array of EBBs. The successful candidate will have prior experience in developing new business, managing client relationships and onboarding new pipeline assets. The role works closely with plant operations, pipeline operators, risk and settlements, and environmental teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree (accredited) or in lieu of degree High School Diploma or GED (accredited)
  • 4 years relevant experience in Natural Gas Markets (in addition to education requirement).
  • Prior experience scheduling on multiple EBBs
  • Strong character, able to cope successfully with demanding and fast-paced energy environment.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee scheduling all physical natural gas for the commercial team across multiple pipelines (Monthly and daily) as well has tracking measurement and looking for variances
  • Identify short-term transportation or storage opportunities to optimize the portfolio
  • Track and manage pipeline imbalances while identifying any optimization opportunities
  • Work in conjunction with the Manager of Gas Trading to proactively communicate market conditions and make recommendations for monetizing the gas portfolio
  • Manage deal entry, nominations and measurement into WMRE’s ETRM system
  • Build and maintain relationships with partners, counterparties, traders, and brokers on behalf of WMRE
  • Work in close partnership with control functions such as Legal, Compliance, Market and Credit Risk, Audit, Finance in order to ensure appropriate governance and control infrastructure
  • Responsible for the optimization of short and medium term Natural Gas and pipeline capacity
  • Researches short and medium term market activity / trends and develops a strategic and tactical plan to monetize WM’s pipeline capacity portfolio in the US and Canada.
  • Experience with scheduling Natural Gas in various pipeline systems in both US and Canada.
  • Capture value from transport
  • Contribute to monthly index strategy and negotiations with counterparties, aligned with risk and credit guidelines.
  • Track pipeline outages, maintenance, weather, storage levels, and flows, and insights into schedules and trading decisions.
  • Use available transport and storage contracts (firm and interruptible), manage capacity transfers, and prioritize scheduling rights.
  • Good understanding of Natural Gas pipeline systems in the US and North East Canada
  • Works closely with WM functions in plant operations, compliance and regulatory to establish and understand the natural gas production profile.
  • Works with WMRE senior management to establish strategy and resources as appropriate.
  • Works with internal and external customers, suppliers and other partners to resolve problems, respond to suggestions for improvement and enhancements, test, refine and institutionalize solutions.
  • Prior experience working with mid and back office employees systems (while not essential) would be helpful.
