About The Position

The Manager, Nationwide Policy, Clean Outdoor Air at the American Lung Association plays a crucial role in advocating for clean air and lung health. This position focuses on policy research and development related to reducing methane emissions and improving emissions from rail operations. The manager will work collaboratively with national partners and internal teams to create outreach materials and advocate for policy changes at various governmental levels, aiming to enhance public health and environmental justice.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in public policy, environmental policy, political science, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Two to three years of policy analysis or advocacy/organizing experience.
  • Experience with outdoor air quality issues and public policy advocacy preferred.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across teams.
  • Willingness to travel within the continental U.S. (1-3 trips per year anticipated).

  • Familiarity with grant writing and management.

Responsibilities

  • Track and analyze health studies on the impacts of diesel emissions and benefits of zero-emission locomotives.
  • Monitor policy developments at federal and state levels regarding methane emissions and diesel locomotive cleanup.
  • Create public-facing communications and outreach materials to educate audiences about health impacts and benefits of clean air initiatives.
  • Develop advocacy materials for decision-makers, including letters and comments.
  • Maintain relationships with stakeholders focused on environmental justice and health organizations.
  • Represent the Lung Association in relevant coalitions and ensure engagement with impacted populations.
  • Collaborate with state advocacy staff to enhance understanding and engagement on air quality issues.
  • Contribute to the development and tracking of grant deliverables and project metrics.
