Job Description: The Coding Manager is responsible for the primary oversight of the Coding and Charge Capture Specialists, process flow and timely submission of charges. The Coding Manager will provide leadership and resource management for the coding department and collaborate with the compliance department and providers for their assigned practice pod.

  • Oversee daily workload of Coding and Billing Specialists and make adjustments to meet daily and monthly goals.
  • Review productivity and quality of the Coding and Charge Capture team members.
  • Collaborate with RCM Leadership as needed to resolve coding and claim issues.
  • Collaborate with practice operational and clinical leadership regarding workflow and charge capture.
  • Process payroll and manage time for all staff.
  • Monitor and evaluate key processes to identify opportunities for improvement
  • Investigate coding requirements for new procedures or drugs.
  • Responsible for coordinating training for all new employees and ongoing training for current staff members.
  • Serve as a resource for team members and provide direction in resolving operational issues.
  • Collaborate with others regarding the coding rules engine.
  • Manage month end close process including the completion of required reports in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Assist in developing, implementing, and revising policies and procedures to assure that everyone within the department adheres to coding rules and regulations.
  • Responsible for hiring qualified team members.
  • Directly supervises team members and proactively manages their performance and development including but not limited to goals, performance feedback, appraisals, and corrective actions.
  • Conduct regular staff meetings to communicate new ideas, resolve problems, obtain feedback and maintain the overall effectiveness of the staff.
  • Must have a Professional coding certification
  • Minimum of 5 years coding experience preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years supervisory experience required.
  • Knowledge of Medical Oncology/Radiation /Sugery coding highly preferred
  • Must be willing and able to travel to clinics when necessary.
  • Attendance is an essential job function
  • Knowledge of government programs, i.e., Medicare and Medicaid.
  • Knowledge of insurance company’s policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of CPT, ICD-9, HCPCS coding.
  • Knowledge of anatomy and medical terminology.
  • Ability to prioritize work and manage time efficiently.
  • Creative thinking skills, hands-on problem-solving skills, and ability to analyze and respond to data.
  • Effective communication skills at all levels within the organization and excellent customer service skills.
