The position of Manager, Mechanical Engineering involves managing all Mechanical Engineering personnel and Mechanical Design activities involving Maritime Power Energy Solutions (MPES) Philadelphia product lines. This role provides technical leadership and directs the design and development of new products to ensure L3Harris's technical superiority in the market place.

  • Manage and direct the day to day activities of the Mechanical Engineering Group and make individual work assignments.
  • Monitor individual performance and prepare formal Performance Appraisal Reports.
  • Be capable of executing all the duties of a Senior Mechanical Engineer.
  • Serve as a Lead Engineer responsible for the total Mechanical system design of IPNC, Switchgear, and Circuit Breakers.
  • Provide detailed design models and drawings of all new development using Solidworks.
  • Manage heritage designs in their native CAD tools as necessary.
  • Manage the design and prototype of new components to rapidly test changes and improvements.
  • Ability to technically define and decompose IPNC and Switchgear system and functional requirements, document specifications, and identify and architect new requirements.
  • Work closely with Operations to transition new designs to production / manufacturing using established company processes.
  • Assist in the testing and qualification of the IPNC as well as implementing and testing all design changes.
  • Assist in the development of technical feasibility studies to support growth and customer opportunities.
  • Assist purchasing Dept to select vendors for purchased mechanical components.
  • Assist QC Dept to verify compliance of incoming purchased parts with required specs.
  • Manage the engineering input to outside machine shops that will be fabricating components.
  • Manage the documentation control system for all products and components.
  • Interface with customers on behalf of L3Harris and Business Development.
  • Requires management and leadership knowledge in job area.
  • Typically has comprehensive knowledge and skills within a specific technical or professional discipline and may have broad understanding of other areas within the job function.
  • Bachelor's Degree and minimum 9 years prior related experience, or Graduate Degree with a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience, or in lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior related experience.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOD secret security clearance, which requires U.S. Citizenship.
  • Knowledge of structural/thermal/kinematic analyses, and material selection for corrosive marine environments.
  • Experience with technical leadership of a mechanical project team.
  • Extensive Solidworks & Solidworks PDM Experience.
  • Experience in mechanical engineering design and development of military products.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills, especially personnel soft skills.
  • Design of undersea systems.
  • Practical experience with computer aided design and analysis software.
  • Department work planning, control, implementation and execution skills are a must.
  • Working knowledge of Word, Excel, Project and Power Point, electronic communications.
  • Power Distribution, switchboard and mechanical breakers experience.
  • Knowledge of Navy/Military specifications and standards pertaining to hardware, materials and testing processes.
