About The Position

The Manager, Marine, Technical and OH&S Policy leverages a strong experience base in safety, technical and OH&S operations, policy and application in a marine or industrial environment, applies expert knowledge of applicable regulations, and possesses strong facilitation, communication and relationship building skills in order to assess, establish and improve Safety, Marine, Technical and OH&S policies, procedures and practices across the Carnival Corporation fleet, thus reducing the company’s risk profile.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 3 years’ sea experience on cruise ships preferred, significant experience and knowledge in maritime operations, law and policy; experience in voyage planning.
  • Knowledge of the International Safety Management Code, SOLAS, MARPOL, and cruise ship safety systems.
  • This role requires the ability to work accurately and consistently with little support.
  • Critical examination of information, and proactive direction / decision making, is routinely required as is the need to make considered judgement based upon operational knowledge and experience/understanding of legacy content.
  • The position requires excellent verbal and written communication skills and an ability to evaluate content across all safety disciplines.
  • Sensitivity to commercial considerations is critical together with an ability to construct sound arguments for a particular course of action.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage logical processes within structured databases
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to build rapport and professionally interact at all levels within the organization
  • Proficient analytical skills, thorough and accurate, able to identify key issues, interpret information and present recommendations and conclusions
  • Strong planning and organizational skills. Detail oriented and committed to accuracy.
  • Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines.
  • Intermediate proficiency in MS Office applications
  • Ability to compile data and generate reporting
  • Ability to multi-task and effectively communicate results and recommendations both orally and in writing to both internal and external contacts

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with and provide subject matter expertise to operating companies and other corporate departments to identify, standardize and implement effective safety programs/initiatives for the prevention of safety, marine and technical incidents and injuries, illnesses and fatalities.
  • Develop and continuously improve corporate safety, marine, technical, OH&S, and emergency response policies and procedures aimed at mitigating identified safety risks.
  • Monitor safety, marine, technical incidents and crew injuries and crew occupational illnesses and identify causal patterns and potential policy actions needed to reduce risk.
  • Make recommendations to the Director, Safety and OH&S Policy relating to safety, marine, technical and OH&S policy.
  • Manage various safety-related working groups, prepare agendas, and draft meeting minutes.
  • Develop lessons learned documents for newsletters and other publications to be distributed across the corporate fleet.
  • Represent the Company regarding safety matters to external stakeholders
  • Review IMO draft papers and provide subject matter expert input to the industry's IMO delegation.
