About The Position

The Marine Operations Manager is a hands-on, execution-oriented role responsible for managing day-to-day Marine Operations activities while contributing to fleet strategy and newbuild deliveries. Reporting to the Vice President, Marine Operations, the role manages and coordinates activities across Marine Operations, Safety, Medical, Health, Environment, Security, Crewing, Newbuilding, Hotel & Guest Services Operations, and Managed Services Providers to promote safe, compliant, and well-run vessels. The position blends operational management, project coordination, and administrative discipline, with responsibilities spanning regulatory readiness, training coordination, managed services oversight, risk tracking, and executive support. The role acts as a key enabler of the VP Marine Operations by managing information flow, tracking actions, and supporting decision-making across operational, compliance, and newbuild workstreams. Success in the role requires the ability to operate with minimal guidance, manage multiple priorities, and translate strategic direction into practical outcomes. Adaptability, sound judgment, discretion, and the ability to move between planning, problem solving, and detailed administrative execution are key characteristics of this position.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in Maritime Studies, Nautical Science, Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, Operations Management, Engineering, or a related discipline is preferred. An equivalent combination of education, professional certifications, and relevant maritime operational experience may be considered.
  • Working knowledge of ISM/SMS systems, audit and inspection processes, ship certification requirements, and interaction with class, flag, shipyards, and managed service providers.

  • Seagoing experience, STCW certification, project management exposure, or safety and audit credentials preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Supports the VP Marine Operations in maintaining oversight of Managed Service Provider operational activities, including medical, health, safety, environment, security, and marine operations, as well as fiscal responsibility.
  • Manages the development, maintenance, and application of operational processes that support marine planning, forecasting, and effective oversight of Managed Services Providers in delivering operational excellence.
  • Supports the VP Marine Operations with coordination of Managed Services Provider newbuild and compliance planning activities, including development, maintenance, and verification of Planned Maintenance Systems, Standard Operating / Quality Procedures, Safety Management System documentation, audit and inspection routines, muster lists, fire action plans, emergency decision-support materials, risk assessments, and related plans.
  • Monitors incident, accident, and performance metrics and manages follow-up actions with internal teams and Managed Services Providers.
  • Oversees ship certification status and ensures maintenance of statutory and quality plans, manuals, and documentation across operational, refit, and build phases.
  • Manages internal verification timelines and contributes to audit and inspection readiness activities, including documentation and follow-up and lessons learned actions.
  • In coordination with the VP Marine Operations, manages review of marine operational elements of itinerary planning and port operations to ensure operational feasibility, regulatory compliance, and safe execution.
  • Manages and maintains a centralized Marine Operations SOP and policy repository and oversees development, updates, and version control of the corporate Marine Operations Manual.
  • Works with Hotel Operations leadership to ensure alignment of deck and engine guest service standards and consistency of service delivery and culture across crew rotations.
  • Manages development and maintenance of Marine Operations departmental Project Plans, tracking alignment across Marine Operations, Hotel Operations, Port Operations, Newbuild Operations, and Managed Services Providers, including interdependencies across Yacht 1, Yacht 2, and future vessels.
  • Provides direct project management support to the VP Marine Operations, including tracking, follow-up, documentation, escalation support, and implementation tracking for regulatory actions, lessons learned, and risk mitigation measures.
  • Identifies, documents, and escalates operational issues, risks, and inefficiencies, providing analysis, recommendations, and decision support for Marine Operations leadership.
  • Manages coordination with corporate functions including Legal, Finance, Risk, Insurance, and Human Resources by overseeing information gathering, documentation, and follow-up related to marine operational matters, incidents, audits, and compliance inquiries.
  • Provides executive support to the VP Marine Operations by managing briefing materials, consolidating operational data, tracking action items, and supporting preparation for senior leadership, ownership, regulatory, and external stakeholder engagements.
  • Manages monitoring and coordination of emerging regulatory and compliance requirements impacting marine operations, including safety, environmental, medical, public health, and security obligations, and oversees internal alignment and implementation tracking.
  • Contributes operational input to Marine Operations strategic planning, budgeting, resource requests, and future CAPEX discussions.
  • Manages relationships with shipyards, designers, technical partners, and Managed Services Providers by coordinating meetings, tracking deliverables, documenting decisions, and following up on agreed actions.
  • Manages Marine Operations input into seagoing recruitment processes, including development of role-specific screening questions and evaluation criteria in coordination with Crewing and Managed Services Providers.
  • Oversees operational and administrative coordination related to officer and petty officer handovers, cabin allocations, and associated budget considerations for deck and engine personnel.
  • Acts as the Marine Operations point of contact for marine-related scheduling impacting operations, crewing, or compliance, coordinating with internal and external stakeholders as required.
  • Manages Marine Operations workflows to promote appropriate planning, forecasting, and timely response.
  • Develops and maintains standardized deck and engine quality assurance materials to support continuity of operations and effective knowledge transfer.
  • Manages planning and coordination of pre-deployment and pre-operations training schedules, including onboard emergency preparedness, fire response, and shore-based skills and simulator training.
  • Manages third-party training programs for new-hire deck and engine officers, oversees training provider coordination, and conducts training effectiveness reviews.
  • Supports performance management processes for marine operations personnel, including documentation and escalation of operational or performance concerns.
  • Supports Marine Operations participation in the design review and execution of newbuild vessels and commercial products, ensuring review of operational practicality and execution.
  • Oversees timely follow-up and closure of comments within scope and ensures capture of lessons learned and operational feedback for structured transfer into future programs.
  • Supports oversight of Managed Services Provider newbuild activities to ensure alignment with Marine Operations readiness requirements, including ship certification activities, Marine Owner Supply items, logistics coordination, system integration, crewing, and training activities such as pre-operation training, emergency preparedness, simulator sessions, and early crew familiarization.
