About The Position

We are looking for a Manufacturing / Operations Manager - 2nd Shift who will provide leadership for all second-shift manufacturing activities, ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient operations aligned with RTX core values and leadership behaviors. This role has direct accountability for production execution while flexibly leading a workforce that may include hourly employees, frontline supervisors, and mid-level professionals. The manager serves as a key integrator across Materials, Planning, Quality, and Maintenance, leading through influence as well as direct authority. Success in this role requires adaptability, strong people leadership, and the ability to scale leadership approach based on team capability and operational complexity. 2nd Shift Schedule: Monday - Thursday 4:00 pm to 2:30 am As an employee at Collins Aerospace-Fairfield, Safety is an expectation. Employees are expected to work safely, follow all safety rules, requirements, procedures, and instructions always. You are expected to actively participate in the safety program and be mindful of your safety and the safety of others. You are expected to complete all the safety training in a timely manner.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a University Degree and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance
  • Experience leading manufacturing or operations teams across multiple employee levels.

  • Experience managing second-shift or off-shift operations.
  • Knowledge of safety systems, quality systems, materials flow, and maintenance coordination.
  • Experience driving continuous improvement initiatives in a regulated manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Champion a safety-first culture, ensuring all employees go home safe every day.
  • Ensure full compliance with safety, environmental, quality, and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead incident prevention, reporting, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation.
  • Reinforce adherence to standard work, policies, and procedures.
  • Own second-shift production performance, including safety, quality, delivery, and cost.
  • Manage multiple manufacturing cells to achieve productivity, schedule adherence, and flow.
  • Set daily priorities, staffing, sequencing, and execution plans to meet production commitments.
  • Proactively identify and resolve flow disruptions to minimize impact to operations.
  • Partner closely with Materials, Planning, Quality, and Maintenance to ensure operational readiness.
  • Lead material availability and logistics issue resolution to maintain uninterrupted production.
  • Coordinate maintenance priorities to improve equipment reliability and reduce downtime.
  • Ensure all quality-related requirements are completed, documented, and sustained.
  • Lead, coach, and develop hourly employees, frontline supervisors, and professional staff, as applicable.
  • Adapt leadership style to meet the needs of employees at different experience and skill levels.
  • Set clear expectations, provide timely feedback, and hold individuals and teams accountable for results.
  • Identify skill gaps and ensure effective onboarding, technical, safety, and leadership training.
  • Support talent development, engagement, and succession planning across multiple levels of the organization.
  • Drive continuous improvement, cost reduction, and waste elimination initiatives.
  • Support implementation of new or improved manufacturing processes, equipment, and technologies.
  • Encourage disciplined problem solving and data-driven decision making.
  • Serve as a trusted operational partner to internal stakeholders.
  • Communicate priorities, performance, and issues clearly across shifts and functions.
  • Ensure smooth handoffs between shifts to maintain continuity and accountability.
  • Lead with Integrity: Act ethically, model RTX values, and hold self and others accountable.
