About The Position

Leads maintaining all facility equipment in optimal operation condition. Ensures all equipment is operational, mechanically and electrically, through means of an effective preventative/predictive maintenance program. Ensures all maintenance and repair work is properly performed in a timely and cost effective manner. Ensures that all the optical equipment is working properly and hitting the targets that are set forth by the OEM. Directs the efforts of all maintenance employees to ensure quality of workmanship and maximum effectiveness of their efforts. This position reports to the Engineering & Maintenance Systems Manager, who in turn reports to the Plant Engineering Manager, who in turn reports to the Burley Plant Manager. Functional support is provided to the incumbent by the Corporate Engineering Department as necessary. The incumbent works closely with each member of the Factory Staff. In particular, the incumbent maintains a very high level of communications with the Manufacturing Managers, Field Department Manager, Plant Services Manager, and Human Resources Managers, and their respective subordinates. The incumbent is required to establish and maintain cordial and effective relationships with utility companies, insurance companies, and State and Federal regulatory agencies. Incumbent establishes and maintains a reasonable pool of desirable outside contractors and works closely with them in the areas they perform work. Incumbent initiates and consummates outside contracts of selected dimensions not requiring the capabilities and control of the Engineering Department. The incumbent is expected to recommend to and consult with the Plant Engineering Manager in planning for improvements to current methods or procedures to assist operations departments in realizing the highest dollar return on equipment investments through adherence to proper operating procedures, preventative maintenance techniques, work order control, etc. The position requires the incumbent to be available for consultation during all hours the factory is in operation under production, as well as being available for weekend/holiday work on a routine basis as required.

Requirements

  • Incumbent must have a general working knowledge of all factory operations including raw product systems, processing, packaging, palletizing, freezing, steam generation, instrumentation, etc.
  • Administrative and computer skills would be required in this position.
  • Three to five years’ experience in a maintenance supervisory role, preferably in a food-processing environment is essential.

  • Post-secondary education (Associate’s Degree, Bachelor’s Degree, Trades Certification), is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direction for maintaining and operation of all physical equipment to ensure proper utilization.
  • Investigate and eliminate mechanical or maintenance problems, which would affect manufacturing schedules.
  • Take timely and effective actions to control unfavorable expenditure trends, which would result in exceeding the maintenance and repair budget.
  • Develop subordinates to their fullest potential through training, progressive discipline programs.
  • Conduct special studies as assigned, or perform self-initiated studies designed to improve departmental and factory performance.
  • Possess and keep current on the most advanced information on manufacturing maintenance.
  • Maintain open communications between departments and employees.
  • Works with all the supervisors to ensure root cause failure analysis are being completed and the action items are getting resolved in a timely manner.
  • Create an environment that encourages a safety culture through managing a true safety culture that promotes safety improvements and addressing safety concerns in your department.
  • Must provide professional representation of McCain Foods mission and values both inside and outside the organization, while adhering and leading behavior in accordance with to Code of Conduct.
  • As a member of the leadership team, your participation in the continuous improvement process is expected. This includes taking an active role in process improvement initiatives, employee training, utilization of MDI process improvement and upgrading your current skill base.
  • Maintain and progressively improve the preventative maintenance program.
  • Prepare and submit to the Plant Engineering Manager reports on a timely basis.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Engineering & Maintenance Systems Manager.
  • Focuses on hitting all targets set forth through planning and scheduling in the maintenance department .
