Job Summary Metal Part Machining focuses on operating computer or mechanically controlled machines to produce and repair metal parts for manufacturing. Analyzes engineering specifications or blueprints to define the dimensions and features of the metal part to be produced. Determines the optimal tool path for fabricating the part by selecting appropriate machine tools (e.g., lathes, drill presses, milling machines, grinders, boring machines, etc.) and specifying the sequence of tool operations. Manually sets up/adjusts machine tools. Recommends revisions in design and/or substitutions in material based on machinability or fabrication problems Impact of the Role General Profile Supervises the daily activities of support staff or production team members. Does not typically perform the work supervised Must have any type of one direct report or more Sets priorities for the team to ensure task completion; coordinates work activities with other supervisors Problem solving is guided by policies and procedures; receives guidance and oversight from manager Consistent exercise of discretion & judgment

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree and 5-7 years' experience OR Equivalent Combination of Relevant Education &/or Experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

Responsibilities

  • Oversees skilled trade workers who produce and repair precision metal parts and tools for use in manufacturing.
  • Supervises repair & maintenance machine shop operations and inspects finished parts and tools against specified tolerances.
  • Reviews work orders and scheduling resources.
  • Monitors machine shop tools/equipment and adjusts setups, calibrations, and alignments where required.
  • Leads and directs the work of other employees and has responsibility for personnel actions including hiring, performance management, and termination with concurrence from HR & General Managers.
