About The Position

Under the general supervision of the Director, Loss Prevention, the 92099453Manager, Loss is responsible for evaluating the potential for loss and risk exposures for indemnified parties. The managers, Loss Prevention is responsible for the management of the Loss Prevention Risk Management Specialists. Loss Prevention management includes but is not limited to hospitals, providers, offices practices, property, and auto liability. The Manager, Loss Prevention is responsible for assisting in the development and implementation of system wide programming to mitigate potential losses and risk exposures. The Manager, Loss Prevention will collaborate with education vendors, providers, and senior leadership. The Manager, Loss Prevention will provide risk management support to our indemnified providers and practices. Requirements

  • BASIC KNOWLEDGE A Master’s degree in Nursing, preferred. A degree in related healthcare-related field considered.
  • Experience in hospital-based nursing leadership, patient safety, risk management and or loss prevention strongly preferred.
  • Professional level of experience operating business applications with emphasis on database, spreadsheet, presentation applications in Microsoft Office required.
  • A demonstrated mastery of statistical and other quantitative analytics preferred.
  • EXPERIENCE At least five years’ experience in hospital environment.
  • Evidence of ability to prioritize and communicate effectively required.
  • Evidence of highly developed platform presentation skills with effective interpersonal skills is required.
  • The role requires the ability to adjust workflows in real time.
  • The ability to apply critical thinking and event escalation skills to prioritize the daily workflow.
  • Loss Prevention issues often delve into the unknown, therefore the role requires an inquisitive, investigative nature.

Responsibilities

  • Uses various internal and external data sources, including Brown University Health, local, regional, and national professional liability experience data to identify potentialctual areas of risk.
  • Supervise the completion of office practice assessments.
  • Gathers, organizes, and reviews information on clinical activities performed by practitioners covered.
  • Communicates relevant information efficiently to providers and practice managers.
  • Collaborate with the Insurance and Business Operation department to provide Loss Prevention guidance and activities identified by the underwriting team.
  • Supervises and produces a variety of analyses in assessing potential risk. Information may be abstracted and summarized from surveys, questionnaires, loss ratios, trends, office practice assessments or by other means, including as appropriate, information gathering interviews.
  • Proactively reviews and analyzes claims and adverse actions brought against Brown University Health affiliates and indemnified practitioners.
  • Analyzes processes to minimize risk of adverse patient outcome and/or litigation.
  • Identifies potential root causes, trends, and areas of potential risk.
  • Identifies opportunities for quality improvement.
  • Facilitates resolution of these risks by working collaboratively with affiliate-based staff.
  • Uses various internal and external data sources, including Brown University Health, local, regional, and national claims data to identify potentialctual areas of risk.
  • Develops and presents educational programs to covered individuals, management and variety of other audiences that support patient safety initiatives, mitigate reoccurrence, minimize financial and legal exposures to the system.
  • Manages other loss prevention and clinical risk management activities as required.
  • Provides risk management support for physician practices covered by the Brown University Health Malpractice Plan.
  • Maintains expertise in physician office-related regulatory and risk issues.
  • Supervises the 132707901Loss Prevention Risk Management Specialist who contributes written materials related to loss prevention to various Brown University Health publications and prepares other educational documents.
  • 132707947Supervises the Loss Prevention Risk Management Specialist who serves as the webmaster for the Department for development, design and maintenance of its intranet and internet sites.
  • Serves as liaison for the risk management education vendors.
  • 57118658Supervises the Loss Prevention Risk Management Specialist who serves as the facilitator of the LRS Grant Program.
  • Supervises evaluation of potential risk for various volunteer activities, sponsored camps, and Brown University Health events in collaboration with Insurance and Business Operations.
  • Supervises the collection and analysis of departmental data for the purposes of presentation, process improvement and risk mitigation.
  • Participates in the on-call rotation for clinical risk management coverage for the system.
  • Assists with the management of the Loss Prevention Program for the malpractice coverage awards.
  • Supervises the coding fidelity for all claims, reports new claims activity as applicable and trend claims loss prevention activity.
