About The Position

The Manager Library Services serves as the primary resource for biomedical and other health-related information requests from clinical and non-clinical staff across all Methodist Health System campuses. Maintains all physical and electronic library resources. Locates, evaluates, and delivers requested information to GME trainees, physicians, nurses, and allied health professionals. Collaborates with other non-MHS institutions to maintain inter-library loan process. Supports the mission and vision of Methodist Health System and Graduate Medical Education.

Requirements

  • Masters Degree in Library Sciences, required
  • Three or more years of experience in a biomedical library setting is required, management experience is preferred.
  • Proficiency in a variety of medical library database and other literature search tools
  • Proficiency with electronic library resource management
  • Exceptional customer service skills
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Manages the day-to-day operation of the MHS virtual medical library.
  • Oversees all financial aspects of the library program.
  • Provides recommendations for library resources.
  • Provides biomedical literature searches and articles in response to requests from trainees, faculty, medical staff members, nurses, allied health professionals and other staff throughout MHS.
  • Selects, manages, evaluates and makes accessible biomedical and health-related databases and electronic resources to trainees, faculty, members of the medical staff, nurses, allied health professionals and other staff throughout MHS.
  • Provides education and instruction on access and use of subscription based biomedical databases, electronic books, and electronic journals.
  • Participates in DOCLINE/HealthLine interlibrary loan consortium and maintains print collection of journals to fulfill requirements for membership.
  • Participates in publication of MHS GME Research Journal.
  • Participates in professional organizations such as the Medical Library Association and HealthLine and keeps abreast of trends and issues related to health sciences librarianship.
  • Serves as a resource for the Medical Technology Assessment Committee or other work groups at MHS by providing access to the medical literature for their use.
