Visit davispolk.com. Position Summary We are seeking a qualified attorney to join our Knowledge and Innovation team as Manager, Legal Data, Technology & Compliance. This role combines legal expertise with a focus on technology, data, risk, compliance, and process improvement. The successful candidate will work closely with practice groups, firm leadership, and cross-functional teams to advance the firm’s strategy around AI, technology, data, and knowledge initiatives.   • Demonstrated ability to work directly with legal and business services stakeholders with little or no supervision.
  • Ability to manage competing deadlines and know when to escalate issues or decisions.
  • Familiarity with outside counsel guidelines, vendor management, or law firm risk/compliance practices.
  • Interest in legal technology, AI, and data management.
  • Understanding of, or willingness to learn, information governance and security practices related to technology vendors and client requirements.
  • Understanding of, or willingness to learn, best practices for data management.
  • Juris Doctor (JD) or foreign equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience practicing as an attorney in a law firm environment.
  • Demonstrated experience with contract negotiation and/or interpretation.

  • Experience working in a law firm knowledge management, innovation, or risk/compliance function, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary liaison between Knowledge & Innovation attorneys, practice groups, and other departments to identify, collect, and categorize key practice group data.
  • Coordinate with accounting, business services, and other relevant departments to track down and reconcile cross-functional data sets.
  • Work with data architects and database administrators to ensure legal and business requirements are reflected in data management processes.
  • Support the design and implementation of firmwide initiatives to leverage practice group data for strategic projects, including: Coordinating with practice groups to establish efficient processes for maintaining accurate and actionable data; Monitoring progress and performance of data initiatives and proactively identifying areas for improvement or future opportunity; Overseeing the implementation of new knowledge and data systems, ensuring they align with both legal workflows and firm objectives; and Acting as a point of contact for ongoing queries and support related to practice group data management.
  • Review and advise on outside counsel guidelines, with an emphasis on issues related to AI, technology, and innovation.
  • Collaborate with the Vendor Management Office (VMO) to review and negotiate firm contracts for both general and K&I-specific engagements, focusing on AI/technology risk and compliance.
  • Oversee and assist with contract negotiation and vendor selection, ensuring alignment with firm policies and risk standards.
  • Respond to client questionnaires regarding the firm’s use of AI and technology, coordinating with IT, security, and practice groups for accurate disclosures.
  • Review vendor security responses, particularly those related to AI and technology, in partnership with information security.
  • Lead and contribute to multi-disciplinary projects focused on the effective use of data, AI, and technology within the firm.
  • Facilitate knowledge-sharing and best practices across practice groups and administrative teams.
  • Maintain awareness of emerging trends in legal technology, AI, and data management; proactively identify opportunities for innovation and improvement.
  • Promote a culture of learning and adaptability with respect to technology and process change.
