About The Position

The Glenn Biggs Institute for Alzheimer’s and Neurodegenerative Diseases Biobank Laboratory is seeking a Lab Manager to support research-based biobanking, biomarker testing, and data management for human studies. The position will oversee day-to-day research laboratory operations, manage biospecimen processing and inventory, and coordinate sample sharing agreements and data documentation in support of collaborative Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias (ADRD) research. This position will also contribute to the preparation of research manuscripts, presentations, and grant applications that leverage biobank resources. Under general supervision, the candidate will coordinate and execute laboratory and data activities that support translational research, biomarker discovery, and multi-institutional collaborations. The position requires strong organizational skills, scientific rigor, and the ability to manage research protocols and data workflows in a BSL-2 laboratory setting.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of laboratory techniques.
  • Experience documenting and following procedures/protocols.
  • Knowledge of procedures, instruments in use, and quality control measures within the laboratory.
  • Experience operating and maintaining laboratory equipment and conducting regular assessments to record the lab equipment's performance.
  • Ability to operate in a fast paced environment with established time constraints.
  • Ability to maintain strict protocols of all confidential or sensitive information.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Bachelors degree in basic sciences or related field is required.
  • Five (5) years of experience with increasing responsibilities that are directly-related to the assigned laboratory is required.
  • Requires at least two (2) years of experience in leading and/or supervising laboratory personnel and activities.

  • Experience with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates and oversees the collection, processing, storage, and documentation of human research biospecimens according to study protocols and best practices in biobanking.
  • Maintains and curates research databases to ensure accurate linkage between biospecimen inventory, experimental data, and participant information. Experience with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) is a plus.
  • Coordinates data and sample sharing across institutional and external collaborators; assists with material transfer agreements (MTAs), data use agreements (DUAs), and other research documentation.
  • Defines and manages project timelines, milestones, and resource needs for research and biobank-related initiatives.
  • Conducts and assists with molecular and biomarker assays, including sample preparation, QC, and data collection.
  • Independently performs, optimizes, and troubleshoots molecular and immunoassay techniques such as nucleic acid extraction, PCR, ELISA, and ultrasensitive biomarker assays (e.g., MSD, Quanterix Simoa, or Fujirebio Lumipulse).
  • Develops, updates, and implements standard operating procedures (SOPs) for research assays, biobanking, and data management to ensure reproducibility and quality control.
  • Trains and supervises laboratory staff, students, and research personnel in laboratory and data management procedures.
  • Collaborates with investigators to support data analysis, figure preparation, and manuscript drafting; contributes to methods sections and data summaries for grant applications and publications.
  • Maintains laboratory supplies, equipment, and vendor relationships; coordinates maintenance and repairs as needed.
  • Serves as a liaison across teams at the Glenn Biggs Institute and with national and international research partners to ensure research goals and deliverables are met.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
