About The Position

Responsible for planning, directing, organizing and coordinating Laboratory services and related business functions for assigned service area or operational unit. Leads through front-line supervisors, working closely with providers, supervisors, medical office/hospital leaders, and senior leaders to assure the implementation of regionally consistent practices, processes, and protocols to achieve excellence in quality of care, service, access, resource utilization, employee/physician satisfaction and workplace safety. Responsible for laboratory professional practice standards, KP standards of care and clinical competency of staff in accordance with licensure and regulatory requirements. This is a management-level position reporting to assigned director. Has supervisory responsibility with both direct and indirect reports through subordinate supervisors; service area/unit fiscal management; and quality assurance, affordability and patient engagement responsibilities. May perform duties to the extent necessary to maintain clinical expertise and competency to fulfill job responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Minimum five (5) years as a Medical Laboratory Professional.
  • Minimum three (3) years of applicable leadership experience, such as lead or supervisor, or program/project management experience or related consulting experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in medical laboratory science, medical technology or related science.
  • Driver's License (Washington) within 1 month of hire OR Driver's License (Oregon) within 1 month of hire.
  • Medical Technologist Certificate required at hire from American Society for Clinical Pathology OR Medical Lab Scientist Certificate required at hire from American Society for Clinical Pathology.
  • Driver's License (from any state) required at hire.
  • Successful completion of an approved, structured program in medical laboratory science or equivalent knowledge.
  • Thorough knowledge of principles of supervision, management, personnel management, financial analysis and budgeting.
  • Demonstrates customer-focused service skills.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize and problem solve, including the ability to resolve conflict.
  • Demonstrated ability to use good judgment and decision making.
  • Demonstrated understanding and support for diversity in the workplace.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum five (5) years of clinical laboratory leadership experience.
  • Minimum one (1) year of supervisory and management experience.
  • Labor relations management in highly unionized environment.

Responsibilities

  • Accountable for role modeling principles defined by the Care Experience Standards, the KP Mission and any specific department/organizational initiatives.
  • Ensures operational and performance standards are met for assigned teams.
  • Plans, develops, implements, and evaluates department strategies, programs, and policies in partnership with senior leadership and Lab Management team.
  • Responsible for day-to-day operations on assigned teams to achieve business and organizational strategic objectives.
  • Manages designated work unit by translating business plans into tactical action items.
  • Provides supervision through direct and indirect reports for assigned teams to assure member focused high quality, accessible, cost effective care.
  • Pursues professional growth and provides developmental opportunities for others.
  • Works collaboratively with Laboratory Management, Human Resources, and Labor Partners.
  • Oversees clinic building, offices and equipment.
  • Responsible for coordination and management of facilities issues onsite with internal and external vendors.
  • Manages the service area department budget(s) ensuring spending within the budget allocation.
  • Collaborates to develop recommendations, implement, and evaluate improved processes and systems.
  • Addresses patient complaints/concerns and researches and resolves.
  • Establishes and maintains collaborative working relationships with business and industry partners.
  • Manages programs or components of larger cross-functional projects.
  • Actively participates on and/or leads various committees, meetings, and workgroups.
