Manager, Laboratory Operations Role Summary The Manager, Laboratory Operations provides day-to-day operational leadership for Laboratory Services, ensuring high-quality, compliant, and efficient diagnostic services for patients of all ages. This role oversees laboratory workflows, quality systems, staffing, regulatory readiness, and continuous improvement initiatives while partnering closely with Pathology leadership and clinical stakeholders. What You’ll Do Manage daily laboratory operations, ensuring compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and quality standards Oversee proficiency testing programs, quality assurance indicators, turnaround times, and corrective actions Lead method selection, validation, and implementation of new laboratory instruments and technologies Prepare the laboratory for inspections and maintain ongoing readiness for regulatory surveys Monitor staffing levels, productivity, overtime utilization, and volume trends to support service demands Develop, review, and maintain laboratory policies, procedures, and technical documentation Ensure compliance with Joint Commission, CAP, CLIA, OSHA, AABB, FDA, and other applicable standards Establish performance metrics aligned with best practices in Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Partner with hospital leadership, pathologists, nursing, and laboratory staff to support clinical operations Develop and support laboratory education and in-service programs across all sections About Howard University Hospital With over 150 years of caring for our community, Howard University Hospital is a nationally recognized academic teaching hospital and the nation’s only teaching hospital located on the campus of a Historically Black University.
