About The Position

The Manager, International Control Center (ICC) leads a team that ensures reliable, high-quality broadcast and digital distribution services for regional audiences and public media partners across the country. This managerial role combines people leadership, operational coordination, and hands-on technical work in a collaborative, 24/7 environment. The International Control Center (ICC) is the network operations center for Minnesota Public Radio (MPR) and American Public Media (APM). This team monitors all content distribution channels and provides support for content teams and staff across American Public Media Group (APMG). ICC specialists work interdepartmentally to assess, anticipate and respond to technical, distribution, and production challenges. The ICC is staffed 24/7 and serves as the first point of contact outside regular business hours for staff and partners to address issues and receive support. We are looking for a thoughtful and innovative leader for this team who values teamwork, clear communication, mentorship, and continuous learning. This position is a working manager that serves as part of the active team. Work daily in the MPR|APM International Control Center. Position may require occasional weekend, evening, and holiday work. Expected Compensation Range: $100,000 - $110,000 USD annualized. Exact rate determined by experience and education related to the role, organizational compensation structure, and internal equity. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience
  • 5 years’ experience in production, distribution, or systems improvement
  • Experience supporting live or time sensitive broadcast, media distribution, or technical operations
  • Experience with computer-based audio and video technologies (e.g., codecs, IP streaming, station automation, or similar systems‑based audio and video technologies)
  • Understanding of live broadcast operations and procedures
  • Working familiarity with audio, broadcast, and digital media systems
  • Ability to learn and apply new tools and technologies in an operational environment
  • Supervisory or team lead experience with the ability to coach and develop others
  • Clear communicator able to collaborate across teams in a service-oriented environment
  • Strong organizational, project management, and decision-making skills
  • Ability to manage priorities, work independently, and escalate issues appropriately
  • Ability to set and maintain SOPs with internal and external partners
  • Must be able to perform the essential duties of the position with or without reasonable accommodation

Responsibilities

  • Lead and Support the ICC Team
  • Supervise, schedule, coach, and develop a team of ICC Specialists
  • Create opportunities for skill development, training, and career growth

  • Establish and maintain high standards of customer service and technical knowledge in the ICC
  • Oversee Content Distribution Operations
  • Coordinate daily operations of the MPR/APM International Control Center and Network Operations
  • Ensure reliable service for MPR regional services, APM Distribution, client stations, and the NPR Backup Network Operations Center
  • Serve as an operational point of contact with NPR Distribution and partner organizations
  • Serve as a Content Depot Administrator for ICC and MPR|APM Systems, Training, and Documentation
  • Maintain and improve operational procedures and training materials
  • Coordinate regular meetings and training to ensure staff readiness for routine operations and special broadcasts
  • Participate in operational work as a working manager
  • Communication and Partnership
  • Coordinate technical communications with internal teams and external partners
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting to APM national distribution unit and client stations
  • Foster an environment of timely, transparent communication and feedback, e.g. share information and knowledge, provide on-going feedback
  • Support emergency alert partnerships and public media distribution systems
