Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management, Business, Finance, or related field
  • 7–10+ years of experience in insurance, captive management, risk management, brokerage, or underwriting.
  • Demonstrated experience with risk assessment, insurance program administration, and financial analysis.
  • Hands-on experience managing workers’ compensation programs, including claims oversight, loss analysis, and coordination with safety and HR functions.
  • Technical Skills & Knowledge Strong understanding of captive structures, risk-financing strategies, and regulatory compliance.
  • Solid knowledge of insurance policy language, terms, conditions, and contract insurance requirements.
  • Experience with financial modeling, budgeting, and reserve analysis.
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite of products.
  • Strong analytical ability and sound business judgment.
  • Effective communicator who can translate complex risk concepts for senior leadership.
  • Skilled in project management with the ability to balance multiple priorities.
  • High professional integrity and a commitment to strong governance and risk controls.
  • Strong ability to work with operations to drive improvements that reduce loss exposure and enhance loss performance.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree (MBA or JD) preferred.
  • Professional designations (ARM, CRM, CPCU, CCI) strongly preferred.
  • Experience with RMIS platforms (e.g., Origami, Riskonnect), ERM/GRC systems, and data-automation or dashboarding tools (Power BI, Tableau).
  • Familiarity with TPA/carrier claims portals and captive management or insurance accounting systems is a plus.
  • Strategic thinker with a disciplined, detail-oriented approach to execution.

Responsibilities

  • Captive Program Strategy & Operations Manage the structure, governance, and regulatory compliance of the company’s captive insurance entities.
  • Direct underwriting, reserving, financial reporting, and annual actuarial and audit processes.
  • Evaluate expansion opportunities, including new coverage lines, consolidation, or restructuring.
  • Serve as the internal expert on captive coverage, risk financing, and emerging insurance solutions.
  • Corporate Insurance Program Management Lead insurance renewals, exposure data collection, audits, and policy documentation.
  • Maintain policy records, endorsements, certificates, and supporting documents.
  • Coordinate with brokers, underwriters, and internal stakeholders to secure coverage aligned with business needs.
  • Support budgeting, accruals, and premium allocations; maintain and refine Total Cost of Risk analysis.
  • Oversee the workers’ compensation program, including policy structure, renewals, experience modification management, claims performance monitoring, and coordination with brokers, TPAs, HR, Safety, and Legal to control loss costs and improve outcomes.
  • Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) Lead the development and maintenance of an enterprise risk framework that links insurable losses to the operational practices, business decisions, and strategic priorities that drive them.
  • Partner with business units to identify, assess, and monitor risks that are directly connected to—or strong predictors of—future insurable losses, including operational safety, fleet and transportation practices, facility risk controls, product/service liabilities, business continuity gaps, cyber hygiene, and vendor-related exposures.
  • Expand ERM engagement into adjacent risk domains where insurance, operations, and strategy intersect, such as: Operational reliability and process failures that influence loss frequency and severity.
  • Supply chain and vendor performance risks that may lead to business interruption or liability exposure.
  • Technology, data, and cyber risks that affect both insurable cyber events and broader business disruption.
  • Regulatory compliance and legal exposure risks tied to E&O, D&O, and other insured outcomes.
  • Human capital and workforce-related risks, including training, turnover, and safety culture, that materially impact claim trends.
  • Facilitate cross-functional reviews of loss drivers and partner with operations to define actionable controls and practices that reduce claims and improve the company’s risk profile.
  • Produce dashboards and reports that integrate insurance metrics, leading operational indicators, and enterprise risk insights for executive leadership and the board.
  • Ensure alignment between the company’s insurance program, captive strategy, and enterprise-level operational and strategic risks to support long-term stability and financial resilience.
  • Data, Analysis & Reporting Aggregate and analyze exposure, claims, and financial data to evaluate trends and support decision-making.
  • Build dashboards and tools to track key risk and insurance metrics.
  • Prepare materials for executive and board reporting, audits, regulators, and reinsurers.
  • Compliance, Governance & Audit Oversee regulatory filings, board materials, audits, and internal control processes for the captive and insurance programs.
  • Maintain documentation and ensure readiness for internal and external audits.
  • Coordinate with Legal, Finance, and external advisors on compliance matters.
  • Vendor & Relationship Management Build and manage relationships with reinsurers, brokers, TPAs, actuaries, captive managers, and other service providers.
  • Negotiate service agreements and evaluate vendor performance.
  • Cross-Functional & Project Support Lead or support strategic initiatives such as claims analyses, loss forecasting, new coverage evaluations, and feasibility studies.
  • Manage internal communication of risk and insurance concepts and strengthen organizational risk awareness.
