About The Position

Application Performance Monitoring (APM) is one of Datadog's premier products that helps developers see inside complex distributed systems. Our SDKs are both the delivery vehicle for APM and the platform on which all of Datadog's service and app based products (e.g. Application Security Management, Profiling, Data Stream Monitoring…) are delivered. We believe our SDKs are one of our technical moats and are a key competitive advantage for APM and Datadog more broadly. They're also open-source. Leading the evolution of our SDKs is a technically demanding and highly collaborative effort. You'll work with language experts to deliver cutting-edge observability products across our 9 supported languages, with industry leading performance and a world class developer experience. You'll rethink our SDKs' architecture, APIs, data models, and protocol to meet Datadog's current needs and scale, all while building in the open. And you'll grow your team's capacity by fostering a culture focused on customer needs, continuous learning, and innovation. We're looking for an experienced Engineering Manager who cares as much about technical excellence as empowering other engineering teams. Requirements

• An experienced Engineering Manager with a track record of shipping
• A strong and empathetic leader with the ability to build and lead high-performing teams to deliver high quality software
• An ability to pivot from high level product narratives to highly technical implementation details
• Significant programming experience in one or more of: Java, Go, Ruby

Nice To Haves

• Systems programming experience
• Observability tooling experience
• Experience shipping client side software
• JVM, Go or Ruby runtime expertise

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of Engineers and collaborate with Product teams to reshape and grow our platform capabilities to enable product teams
• Define and deliver industry leading, open-source, zero-touch APM instrumentation
• Set a high standard for quality and invest in the tooling and process to maintain it
• Own outcomes, from the quality of implementation to the quality of the user experience
• Keep up to date with the cutting edge of observability instrumentation in industry to ensure Datadog remains a leader in the category
