About The Position

The Manager, Healthcare Regulation and Compliance will be a key member of the Company’s Legal & Compliance Department and responsible for leading and overseeing the Company’s healthcare regulatory compliance strategy and risk management program, with a primary focus on the Company’s Senior Housing Operating Portfolio (SHOP). The role will partner closely with senior leadership, business teams and third-party operators to mitigate regulatory risk while supporting business objectives. The role will report to the Senior Vice President, Deputy General Counsel and Assistant Corporate Secretary. The Company’s SHOP portfolio consists of senior housing communities comprised of high quality, primarily private pay assisted living, memory care and independent living environments. The Company partners with leading third-party operators to operate its SHOP communities on its behalf but participates directly in the financial performance of the communities and is generally responsible for all operational costs, expenses and other risks and liabilities. The Company typically holds the applicable healthcare licenses and enrolls in any applicable government healthcare reimbursement programs on behalf of its communities. Ventas maintains a highly collaborative operating model in its SHOP segment, leveraging strong governance and regulatory oversight, deep operational expertise, and data‑driven insights from its proprietary Ventas OI™ platform to support high‑quality care delivery, drive performance, and create environments where seniors can thrive. This is a critical role in a fast-paced, highly professional and collaborative environment, requiring seasoned judgment, comfort engaging with senior leadership and the ability to effectively navigate the regulatory complexity of the SHOP platform while partnering across the Company and with the Company’s third-party operators to mitigate risk and advance business priorities. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, healthcare administration, public policy or a related field; advanced degree such as a Juris Doctor (JD) or master’s degree is a plus.
  • 5+ years of experience in healthcare regulatory compliance, including HIPAA, Medicare and Medicaid.
  • Must be located in the Chicago, IL, New York City, NY, or Louisville, KY surrounding area or willing to relocate for the duration of employment.
  • Willingness to adapt and thrive in a blended work environment with 3-days in office, seamlessly transitioning between remote work and in-office operations.
  • Strong relationship-building and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across functions, with senior leadership and with the Company’s third-party operators.
  • Demonstrated project management capability, with the ability to translate strategy into execution.
  • Sound judgment, high ethical standards and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without need for employer sponsorship now or in the future.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in senior housing or skilled nursing is a plus, though not required.
  • Travel of up to 10% may be required based on business needs, including visits to operating partners and senior living communities.

Responsibilities

  • Enhancing, implementing and maintaining a risk-based program for managing healthcare regulatory compliance and risk related to the Company’s SHOP portfolio
  • Reviewing, assessing and overseeing the regulatory compliance programs of the Company’s third-party operators, including through community site visits and other in-person engagement
  • Advising on and overseeing the regulatory aspects of acquisitions, dispositions and operator transitions, including efficiently and effectively overseeing the management of change of ownership applications and other federal and state regulatory filings
  • Tracking regulatory developments and trends impacting the Company’s SHOP portfolio and partnering with business leaders to develop strategies and responses to those developments
  • Interacting with industry associations and regulators on matters affecting the senior housing industry
  • Designing, implementing and continuously improving systems, processes and tools for healthcare regulatory compliance oversight, including tracking healthcare licenses and compliance with licensure and government reimbursement program requirements
  • Managing external counsel on healthcare regulatory compliance and related regulatory matters
  • Partnering and collaborating with business and legal colleagues, third-party operators and other key business partners
