Learn more at https://www.jnj.com/medtech The Manager, Hardware Simulation will work with other members of the Robotics and Digital Solutions team to analyze complex mechanisms, simulate structural but lightweight assemblies, motor driven actuators, and motion transmissions. This role is responsible for managing and leading a team of simulation analysis through conceptual and detailed FE analysis, related documentation, and design specifications. Your work will be focused on deriving and simulating innovative designs based on user needs and product requirements! Key team interfaces include electrical engineering, robot controls, system integration, testing, external vendors, and internal manufacturing groups. You will contribute to the development of a complex robotic medical platform. Requirements

  • MSME or similar required with 5+ years of proven experience building complex simulation models with ANSYS/ ABAQUS. Background in robotics or medical capital equipment desired.
  • Proficiency with various simulation types: static, dynamic, linear and non-linear analysis on assemblies ranging from 3 to 100 parts.
  • Demonstrated excellence in the simulation of motors, gears, lead-screws, splines, cams, linear guides, belts, bearing & pulleys.
  • Proficiency in crafting static, quasi-static and explicit dynamic models that accurately predict real world testing.
  • Mechanical analysis experience including statics, dynamics, kinematics, strength of materials, thermal management, and stress analysis.
  • Proven experience understanding manufacturing processes such as machining, sheet metal, casting, injection molding, and 3D printing.
  • Capable of making drawings following standard methodologies from AMSE Y14.5-2009 Dimensioning and Tolerancing.
  • Excellent written & verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Consistent track record working well in a team environment, learning from others, as well as mentoring and coaching more junior team members.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior mechanical engineering management experience with electro-mechanical systems.
  • Previous engineering experience in the design and development of medical device robotics or complex electro-mechanical mechanisms and motors.
  • Experience working in an ISO and FDA regulated environment.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrated ability to function as a technical contributor while leading a simulation team.
  • Proven experience with complex mechanisms and automation. Expertise in Finite Element Analysis using ANSYS/ ABAQUS. Proficiency in applying advanced mathematical concepts to analyze and optimize detailed mechanisms.
  • Build FEA models from scratch, working alongside design engineers across multiple subject areas.
  • Provide hands-on troubleshooting, process, and engineering assistance in support of a rapid development cycle.
  • Strong understanding of vibration analysis, including modal analysis, modal testing, and dynamically induced vibration analysis.
  • Excellent documentation practices with the ability to convey data in a meaningful way.
  • Ability and willingness to work through all phases of product development from conceptualization to production.
  • Design solutions within a quick development cycle, and support those designs with prototype, analysis, and testing results.
  • Establish and take ownership for subsystem test strategy for root cause analysis and simulation verification.
  • Hire and grow team according to budget and plan by closely collaborating with recruiters and ensuring a seamless employee onboarding.
  • Be a positive, collaborative team member with a good honest work ethic.
  • Collaborate with cross-departmental engineering teams and program management for system development and project planning.
