About The Position

The Manager, Global Economist at Mastercard will play a pivotal role in synthesizing and maintaining a cohesive global economic narrative for the Mastercard Economics Institute (MEI). This position involves collaborating with regional Chief Economists to analyze economic trends and deliver actionable insights that support Mastercard's mission of building a more inclusive and sustainable digital economy. The role requires strong communication skills, project management capabilities, and a background in economics to effectively represent Mastercard in various forums and presentations.

Requirements

  • Formally trained economist with a BA+ in economics or a related field.
  • 5+ years of work experience in the private sector covering the global economy or major regions (e.g., US, Eurozone, G7, China).
  • Strong collaboration skills across teams within the institute and broader Mastercard.
  • Evidence of both orthodox and experimental approaches in economic thinking and application.
  • Ability to manage complex projects and timelines effectively.
  • Highly skilled communicator with excellent writing capabilities.
  • Familiarity with coding in R, Tableau, and other analytical tools.
  • Second language preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a cohesive global narrative for MEI, partnering with regional Chief Economists to recognize patterns and macro-drivers spanning regions.
  • Support regional Chief Economists and their local teams in analyzing inter-regional impacts of findings and forecasts.
  • Integrate globally relevant themes into ongoing regional economic analysis.
  • Collaborate with the Global Head of Growth and Operations to create market-facing delivery formats such as blogs, subscription reports, and internal briefings.
  • Create briefing documents for Mastercard leadership teams.
  • Present insights as a representative of Mastercard in customer forums, industry events, and consulting read-outs.
  • Work with MEI data scientists and consulting teams to explore alternative data sets and forecasting methods.
  • Drive story creation for interactive and tailored presentations.
