About The Position

The Manager for Metadata and Cataloging at the Jacksonville Public Library is responsible for overseeing the library's metadata and cataloging functions. This role involves managing day-to-day operations, strategy, and performance of cataloging, classification, and digitization activities. The manager will lead teams, set priorities, and collaborate with other departments to ensure alignment with the library's mission. The position requires proactive leadership and independent decision-making, with limited oversight from senior management.

Requirements

  • A Master's Degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited program.
  • At least four years of progressively responsible professional library work.
  • Three years of experience in cataloging and/or digitization or three years of experience using library cataloging resource materials and standards or two years of experience with software for editing data in bulk.
  • Supervisory experience is preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with BIBFRAME and Linked Data standards.
  • Familiarity with digitization preservation and metadata standards.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage teams responsible for cataloging, classification, and digitization.
  • Establish cataloging and digitization department practices and procedures.
  • Analyze the quality of the catalog database and determine solutions for updates and enhancements.
  • Develop, recommend, and implement library policies and procedures.
  • Schedule, assign, monitor, review, train, and evaluate the work of assigned staff.
  • Monitor and review budget appropriations and expenditures for assigned work activities.
  • Participate in the interview process for selecting new staff.
  • Stay updated on emerging standards and technologies in resource description and access.
  • Compile data, prepare reports, and deliver presentations.
  • Maintain appearance standards of library grounds.
