About the position

To effectively support and manage the financial close process of Novo Nordisk Inc. and other legal entities under the commercial sales & marketing arm of the Novo Nordisk U.S. business. The position will focus on maintaining House in Order by ensuring compliance with Sarbanes Oxley and Novo Nordisk Corporate Accounting guidelines in accordance with IFRS regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Independently manages a fast month-end closing process and effectively coordinate preparation and submission of all deliverables in a timely without any accounting issues.
  • Accountable for the preparation and presentation of year-end financials (balance sheet, income statement reviews and supplementary information) to the SVP of Finance & Operations and VP of Finance and Supply Chain prior to submission to Danish HQ.
  • Explain accounting and budget implications of business transactions to stakeholders across various operational areas.
  • Help with post-acquisition integration and management of financial records of newly acquired entities.
  • Proactively identify, recommend and execute upon issues and/or process efficiency opportunities.
  • Provide monthly status reports on closing process to the Associate Director of Accounting, the Senior Director of Accounting and the VP of Finance and Supply Chain.
  • Guide the Senior Accountant and Global Shared Service team of 3-4 individuals to ensure all deliverables are met.
  • Interfaces with cost center managers and Lines of Business (LoB) to make recommendation on SAP accesses and cost center hierarchy set up.
  • Undertake complex accounting assignments involving revenue recognition, gross-to-net, leases and other topics.
  • Develops guidelines and implements new processes for compliance with the current and new GAAP or International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
  • Responsible for the execution and periodic updates of accounting-related control activities.
  • Partners with the financial compliance group to ensure an efficient internal control set-up exists and is adhered.
  • Engages internal and external auditors in discussion regarding relevant audit findings or recommendations and remediates as needed.
  • Own and manage testing of local owned systems - SAP and Web.
  • Coordinates annual pension audit process, drives alignment and coordination between external auditors and internal teams regarding the identification and impact assessment of new regulatory issues.
  • Prepares and reviews financial statements and footnotes for U.S. and Puerto Rico Pension and Benefit Plans.
  • Reports out to Retirement Committee members on pension audit results and presents audit results, findings, and recommendations to the SVP of Finance and Operations.
  • Perform ad-hoc projects as needed to assist the Sr. Director of Accounting and/or other members of the finance management.
  • Provide budget inputs and guidance to line of business and Financial Planning and Analysis team during the anchor budget and rolling estimate cycles.
  • Coordinate and consolidate financial information from NNUS for filing of mandatory financial reporting with various US government agencies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance from an accredited institution required.
  • Certified Public Accountant or equivalent is preferred.
  • 5+ years relevant experience in Audit, Accounting and/or Financial Reporting.
  • Candidates coming out of the Big 4 (PwC, Deloitte, KPMG, E&Y) or with some Big 4 experience strongly preferred.
  • Pharma and prior leadership experiences are helpful.
  • Experience working within a large ERP system environment, SAP experience a plus.
  • Strong knowledge on accounting controls and processes in ERP environment.
